It is important to understand the context of historical data and landmark cases before moving forward. Your first assignment is to find a case that you feel is critical to the evolutional changes of victim's services and/or process in the legal system.


UtilizeNexis Unithrough the Shapiro Library. Look for the Guided Search option. Select "Cases" under the "What are you interested in?" heading. Then search "Domestic Violence" under the ”Search in all Cases for" heading. Once your results are returned, you may narrow the records by adding “Partner Violence” to the “Search Within Results” option in the “Narrow By” menu. Review the following information to format this paper and make sure your paper addresses the following:



  1. Summarize the case.

    • What is the case?

    • Who is involved in the case?

    • When did this case occur?

    • Where did the crime happen and what court systems were involved?



  2. Summarize your thoughts.

    • How do you feel this case impacted the criminal justice system and/or victim services processes?

    • Has anything significant happened because of this case?

    • Combine your reflections and the case information to produce a conclusion.



  3. What implications does your case have on the criminal justice system?

Summarize the case
In the year 2009, there was an anonymous caller named Maine who had notified about a bald eagle who was shot. While investigating officers discovered that the main suspect in the case, Stephen L. Voisine who was legally not permitted to carry any firearm. Stephen has a history of domestic violence as he was convicted from possessing the gun that resulted from Lautenberg Amendment which has was authorised in 1996. While conducting interrogations, Stephen admitted he was shooting the eagle. Furthermore, Voisine had joined William Armstrong III who argued that the domestic violence convicted shouldn’t have precluded from owning the guns.
