ASSIGNMENT 1 Assignment 1 Evaluation: Part 1: Annotated Bibliography /40 Part 2: Instructional Material /40 Part 3: Rationale for Choice of Instructional Material /30 TOTAL (20% of final mark) /110 Assignment Description: This assignment is completed individually. Imagine you are preparing to deliver a health promotion education session for a group of patients. As you research and plan your session, you decide to create an instructional material to summarize information from your presentation. Using evidenced-based sources of health information (peer-reviewed and other reputable, trustworthy sources), you will work through the process required to research and create an original instructional material. You will demonstrate how you applied your research in an Annotated Bibliography. Process: 1. During seminar, you will self-select a health promotion topic, from the list at the bottom. 2. Begin by researching your chosen topic using trusted, evidenced-informed sources of health information. 3. Write an annotated bibliography that summarizes how the evidence informed information will be used to be used in the development of your instructional material. 4. Review Chapter 12 in your Bastable text. Use the evidence-based information to design and create 1 original instructional material of your choosing. 5. Provide a written rationale for why you decided that the chosen instructional material was the most appropriate material to communicate the evidence-based information of your topic. Utilize APA 7th Edition for all referencing requirements. 6. Follow the online submission guidelines for the assignment (Due: Feb 11th at 1200hrs). Part 1: Annotated Bibliography The SRNA requires that delivery of health education in nursing practice must always be evidence based. An annotated bibliography is a succinct way to document the rationale/evidence of the reliability of the information you use to develop any teaching plan. “An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief (approximately 150-word) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.” www.library.cornell.edu/research/citation/tutorial “Trustworthy resources” meet the “Trust it or Trash It” criteria (refer to course page). The references may include peer-reviewed journal articles, textbooks, and trustworthy websites. a) The annotated bibliography MUST include a minimum of 4 references (in APA format) from the following sources: · minimum 1 peer-reviewed journal article · minimum 3 reputable, trust-worthy sources of health information (may be online sources, journal article, books) b) Each entry must be followed by a rationale of approximately 100 - 150 words (maximum) that addresses the following: · What is the relevance of the source to your topic? · Which concepts from the source are you applying? · How did you determine the accuracy and quality of the source? · What is your rationale for considering it trustworthy enough to share with health consumers? c) Refer to the APA 7th Edition (p.308) to review a sample Annotated Bibliography which demonstrates content and formatting expectations. Part 2: Instructional Material Design 1. Review Bastable Chapter 12: Instructional Materials. 2. Based on the categories outlined in Chapter 12, design & create 1 original instructional material (written, demonstration, or audiovisual) for your health promotion topic. We encourage you to be creative and to also consider the instructional method that is best suited to communicate your topic to your chosen audience. 3. Any references/sources used in the development of the instructional material should originate from and be referenced in the Annotated Bibliography. 4. Any images used must meet copyright laws. Refer to the 7th Edition APA for referencing requirements. 5. Be creative! Create a video, build a model, develop a printed or digital poster…If you develop a printed material, please upload the final version as a PDF. If you create a model, you will need to take pictures of the material to be able to submit it on the course page. You could also take a video recording of you demonstrating how to use the model. Please review images/videos for lighting, sound and visual quality as these elements will be considered as part of the overall evaluation of the material. Part 3: Rationale for Instructional Material Choice Nurses must consider many important variables when selecting instructional materials. Effective teaching includes developing skill in designing and planning for instruction. Learning can be more enjoyable for both the nurse and the learner when the instructional material is chosen strategically to enhance the teaching- learning experience (Bastable, 2017, p.419). 1. Create a written rationale of approximately 500 words maximum (12 pt. font double spaced) that addresses how you considered each of the three major variables that influence your choice when determining your instructional material: · characteristics of the learner · characteristics of the medium · characteristics of the task 2. Refer to Bastable, 2017, p. 420 for the framework to guide your discussion. 3. Submit your written rationale as a PDF to the course page. 4. APPENDIX: RUBRICS FOR ASSIGNMENT 1 1.
