Based on my knowledge and experience potential barriers to effective strategic planning include but is not limited to a lack of communication protocols. The Joint Commission (TJC) accredits hospitals with a vision and mission to improve patient advocacy, quality in patient safety or prevent harm (Wadhwa, 2021). Strategic planning implementations must be held accountable for quality improvements such as unbiased assessments related to the collaboration of effective healthcare at the highest value. Quality measures such as having population health initiatives allow for better understanding and focused on researching commonalities. Understanding the community which we serve assist to overcome common barriers such as a miscommunication between patient and provider.

Additionally, in the general business world stakeholder perspectives do not differ as many patients and their families seek important preceptor skills (Lemaire, 2019). Stakeholders such as healthcare consumers expect patient-centered care and interprofessional qualities. Employee training is vitally important to all stakeholder perspectives and in strategic plans. There is a need to develop a dynamic work environment including health information systems and Information technology. More importantly, when developing strategic plans, a team of dedicated individuals is needed, and the roles of each stakeholder must be clear.

An effective strategic planning in the health care environment is aimed at improved quality of healthcare services, improved customers’ satisfaction while at the same time generating more profits. The strategic planning is developed in such a way that it will be a worthwhile investment for the next five years (Talib et al., 2011). However, there are challenges and barriers that arises while implementing the strategic planning in health care environment. One of the known factors in health care is the ever-changing healthcare sector. New policies, requirements and technology emerges within a short time. Such changes and new trends will significantly affect the implementation of a strategic planning. For example, in the Affordable Care Act, there is a focus on the population health where the healthcare leaders are expected to design strategic plans and allocate more resources towards the purpose of instilling preventative care education to the populations they serve. Thus, if the initial strategic planning had not considered such changes, the managers would be required to revise their strategic planning. Eventually, the delivery time and achievement of the original goals would be delayed. Other barriers to effective strategic planning would include ineffective management of employees and patients where the employees would be reluctant to embrace the new strategic planning. Healthcare strategic planning and its barriers differs from the general business world as the latter aims at maximize profit by investing on productivity and final end-product. They cannot be affected by some of the requirements such as Affordable Health Care Act as they already have the set business policies and requirements.
