1 ICT203 User Centerd Design Assessment 3 Assessment 3 – Team Assignment Overview This is a team assessment. You are required to form a team of 4-5 students. This assessment aims for developing a prototype mobile application to track dying trees in a bad climate situation. The mobile application is important for several reasons: 1. Trees contribute to the environment by providing oxygen and improving air quality, 2 native trees are extinct and 3. some trees take a long time to grow and nurture. As you are aware, Australia summer weather the heat is so severe that can damage many native trees. Having a mobile application it is not only can help to assist scientists and government authorised personnel to collect vital data in terms of understanding each tree longevity, characteristics etc for them to conduct research but it is also useful for anyone who wish to find out native trees growth. The mobile application can benefit to every primary and high schools particularly the ones who are interested into researching native trees and understand ways to keep them healthy and sustainable. The user (anyone) can monitor trees which will be dying in some locations that require their attention. The idea is that the Tree Tracking Mobile Application (TTMT) will help people locate and track native trees survival. TTMT could be based on detecting trees’ location with the GPS integrates onto a user mobile phone. This means you could design the application as a mobile phone application. However, the user will need to be able to enter in additional information about the tree locations. This should include the quantity of trees detected and characteristics of the trees such as: type, age, characteristics etc. The user will also need to be able to attach a picture of the tree on the mobile application as well. The TTMT will also allow the user to see the locations of where trees are located in real time. The interface should also display historical trends about locations that trees are likely to experience the fire threat and pictures of the trees in those locations. This way others can go and confirm trees sightings. Finally, how the information about the trees are entered (e.g., is it a Likert rating scale? emoticons? a sliding scale?) is up to you. Specifications The mobile prototype will need to be able to support the following activities: • Log in and/or register. • Enter and edit the information about tree locations. • Enter information and upload pictures about the trees. • Display tree locations in real-time and show historical trends of trees in a given location. • Display the trees spotting locations in comparison to one another (e.g., distance between them, type of location (park, fountain, lake, highway, mountain etc.), etc.) 2 Timelines and Expectations Total Percentage Value of Task: 40% Group Presentation due in week 10 from 27/1/21 to 29/1/21 or week 11 from 3/2/21 to 5/2/21 during your webinar (10 marks). If you submit your assessment late without obtaining an approval from the unit coordinator. A 10% of the total marks for the item for each day late (excluding weekends and public holidays). After a period of five working days, a student will receive a mark of zero for the assessment. The assessment must be submitted to prevent a Fail Incomplete being recorded on the student’s academic transcript. 10. Assistance: To maintain assessment process equity and fairness, the unit coordinator/ lecturer will not comment on students output prior to submission. The unit coordinator/ lecturer may be able to provide generic advice on theoretical issues, structure, and expectations. Students are advised to raise any generic questions with the lecturer during class discussion so that answers are provided to all students in an equitable and transparent manner. Students having difficulties with their comprehension and writing should seek immediate assistance from academic support services well in advance prior to the due date. 11.Marks and Feedback: This assessment will be marked out of 30 marks which is the allocated weight for the assignment in the unit outline. The unit coordinator / lecturer will endeavour to return marked assessment and provide verbal and written feedback during the class time within 10 working days from the assessment submission due date. 12.Plagiarism means representing the creative work of another as your own original work without appropriate acknowledgement of the author of the work or the source. The need to acknowledge the work of another arises out of a set of rights provided for in the Copyright Act 1968 known as 'moral rights'. These include the right to attribution and the right to object to derogatory treatment of the work. Advice on what constitutes plagiarism, how to avoid plagiarism, and how to reference is available here: provide the link. Students are directed to adequately reference any material they use, not to share their work with others, and not to leave their work on common storage media that others could retrieve with or without their knowledge or consent. Students should therefore take full responsibility of their work as copying and plagiarism with or without their knowledge or consent still attracts severe penalties. 6 Submission Submit to the drop box on Moodle. 7 Marking Criteria / Rubric Marking Criteria High Distinction (25-30) Distinction (22.5-24.5) Credit (19.5-22) Pass (15-18.5) Fail (0-14.5) 1.
