1. Identify ONE potential OH&S issue in your workplace and identify strategies that have been (or should be) put in place to reduce the risks to staff members (and patients if appropriate). If you have not commenced work in a medical imaging department that is fine as all workplaces, and even life as a full-time student, have their associated OH&S issues

2. Find an image with a sonographer scanning with poor ergonomics, and discuss one thing that the sonographer is doing incorrectly. If it is an image that a previous student has found, then add to their conversation with another improvement which could be made.

o Why is it an issue? Ie: what potential harm can result?

o How should this be rectified?

3. The following scenario is adapted from Craig, M 2013, Essentials of sonography and patient care, 3rd edition, Elsevier Inc, St Louis, pp. 83:

You work in a department where the patient volume is exceptionally high. A new member of staff, Jean, is a perfectionist about everything she does. As a result, she has been having a difficult time settling into the department. For the last two weeks she has been going without lunch or breaks and staying late just to keep up. You are concerned about Jean, particularly as she has become sarcastic to all staff members and surly with some of her patients. You are also concerned about Jean’s behaviour because some other staff have been overheard voicing their complaints about having to work with new staff members.

Question: If there was a staff meeting coming up, what plan of action do you think would help Jean best?
