Answer 1: Social Entertainment
My chosen social media entertainment game is role-play games
, a role-playing game (RPG) is a game, in which each player takes on the role of a character and experiences adventures as that character. The Game Master (GM) is one of the players, who are in charge of creating an atmosphere and a plot for the community of characters to enjoy. Since the GM will be playing any Non-Player Character (NPC) the party will meet, this means that GM will not only involve one character, but many.
It is not just about playing roulette and explaining stuff when the players are playing an RPG. One of the aspects that separate it from other games is that the player can control their character. We can alter the way we talk, act and respond in some situations. It is close to improving in certain respects. As mentioned by Rodela, Ligtenberg and Bosma (2019), when the players think of role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, they typically imagine a dimly lit basement packed with people dressed up in ridiculous robes spinning dice, but there is a lot more to it.
Role-playing games are not only exciting, but they can also teach the players skills, which they can implement in the real world. The advantages of playing the role-play games are it boosts creativity. They have a consistency that allows the players to engage with them in ways that are not typical of video games. The players have full control over the plot and can drive the story forward in whatever direction they like. Each game has its own set of rules, but they are just the framework because of whatever story the players and the staff want to tell.
Role-playing games excel at telling stories, which is one of the most successful ways to stimulate our minds. As indicated by Burton-Chellew, Mouden and West (2017), our minds have to interpret language, cause and effect and apply it to our own prior experiences when we share tales when we encounter them. Their brain is running on all cylinders when they are enjoying a role-playing game. They probably do not think of social skills when they think of Dungeons & Dragons, but that is a stereotype, which is not always valid. Role-playing games are entirely social in nature. The players must be able to communicate with others and share their feelings about various circumstances in a group setting. Role-playing games are constructed with a social network built right in.
Surely, video games are doing the same thing to some degree, but it is not exactly the same. There are no screens between the players and the contact in role-playing games. They still get to spend time with their friends. They can come back on what they are being up to and share what is happening in the society during a play session. They can quickly make new friends once they understand the rules of a game. They can join other game teams and make new friends, which is made simpler by the fact that a large plot of common ground is right in front of them. It can be difficult to make friends when they travel, but they can check with a nearby game...
