1. The heart of photovoice is the intermingling of images and words. This blending of images and words is not a new idea. In fact, we humans have used different kinds of images and words to express what we need, what we fear, what we cherish, what we dream of and all sorts of other ideas for as far back as we know. Photovoice is one recent example using this form of expression. For this assignment you have been allocated two x 1-1.5 module asynchronous hours times (in Module 2 - September 22 and in Module 6 - October 20 to practice and complete your Self-Guided Photovoice Field Trip and Reflection) – this does not include the write up of your assignment. There will be no other graded activities (i.e., discussion boards) allocated for those weeks so as to give you time to complete your assignment field trip, although there may be a few short connection or content activities related to the readings for that week. 2. This method, used in many social change photovoice projects around the world, is built around asking several questions about you have experienced in the space and what your photographs show.  The letters of this acronym each correspond to a question and the series of questions prompts you to critically analyze the content of your photographs. (Wang and Burris, 1997). · S- “What do we See here? · H- What is really Happening here? · O- How does this relate to Our lives? · W- Why does this situation concern us · E- What injustices or strengths Exist? · D- What can we Do about it?” (Wang 1999: 188) We are going to slightly modify the ‘SHOWeD’ method to align more with KPE 305’s objectives, themes and theories. Think about the story the images tell you and the story you want to tell with them: · For each part of the ‘SHOWeD’ method that you will engage in this assignment there are a corresponding set of questions (and points to be awarded). Your self-guided field trip should respond to these guiding questions. You can include your photographs in your documen or as a separate attachment. The photographs are not part of the maximum page count. You can label them Photo 1, 2, 3, 4 and indicate what photo you are referring to in your answers.
