The knowledge I gained from the intellipath units provided me an overview of the legal and ethical issues healthcare professionals face daily. Units 3 and 4 specifically pertain to my topic which is Life Support Continuation, these units provided guidance and specific details on what should be included in my research. The discussion boards provided different point of views of which I know I will face once I become a healthcare manager. The management skills I obtained in the military will only be re-enforced in my healthcare profession, learning to use the tools learned here and listening to my peers will only make me a more effective manager/leader.

I have learned time management, and in researching this project, I have learned to listen to both sides of the story before coming to a rash decision. I learned that using the intellipath that there is a difference between a law and ethics. There is a difference between breaking a law, like robbing a bank. A moral or ethical dilemma is like cheating on your spouse, although it is morally wrong to cheat on your spouse, however, it isn’t against the law. I think the competencies and knowledge that will support my career advancement in management, is understanding legal and ethical issues involving patients and I understand how important it is to manage both.

Some business executives believe that their stance is that a CEO’s main responsibility is to maximize profits and shareholder value within legal parameters—even if that means having low ethical standards.(Baldelomar, 2016)

The above is a great example of the fine line between an ethical dilemma.
