Reflecting on the content and focus of this course an important challenge facing management in health care organizations today is cost containment. A causation of increasing health care costs is high readmission rates such as a patient whom returns within thirty days of discharge. I would go about addressing organizational weakness like readmissions by offering patient’s who frequently return an alternative such as outpatient and home health care services. I must effectively inform or educate the patient and their family about how to access resources for different services. Focus on primary care providers, specialized services and the benefits of home health care compared to other institutions. While there are various causes for increasing costs in health care organization, we must provide quality in the delivery of care and exhibit competencies in use of best practices. Strategies I would use to assist in reducing health costs in my organization include benchmarking and comparing data of similar hospitals like readmissions complication or death (Medicare, n.d.).
Benchmark strategy assist in health care planning of success standards to produce high levels of performance related to practice management and continuous quality improvement. The Center’s for Medicare and Medicaid Services provides a website called Hospitals Compare that compares hospital data. Examples of comparable data include but is not limited to number of Medicare or Medicaid patients, thirty-day mortality rates, outpatient enrollment and timely effective care. I reamed in my unique student experience that the information comes from The Joint Commission and Medicare enrollment claims data submitted by hospitals to Medicare (Medicare, n.d.).
We can compare national health care safety network tools to deliver evidenced-based health care by using available resources like the Healthy People website and search related criteria. I reamed the website and there were numerous articles on similar topics although, the option to conduct a search is also provided. Articles on health care associated infections or patient hospital acquired infections or hospital acquired conditions and registry measures. Transparency is important and comparing physician groups is vital to competition in reducing costs while increasing options to health care consumers (HealthyPeople.gov., 2019).

Challenges that health care management that might be seen in health care organization that are important is decision making and team development. Decision making is very important when making quick decision with limited time and information there are 5 Heuristics in decision making:

Team development is another challenge with being a manager in a health care organization. Team development is very important when managing in health care or any business. The team that is organized to make sure the organization is properly which is very vital because your team is a representation of your leadership and more importantly the organization. Management team that is disorganized and/or dysfunctional lead to the possibility of losing patient and and staff members. There are 5 stages of of decision making 1. forming 2. storming 3. norming 4. performing 5 adjourning.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding the discussion material for this week. The Hospital-Acquired Condition Program (HACRP) of CMS is a Medicare pay-for-performance program that links Medicare payment to the quality of care in the inpatient setting (CMS.gov, 2019, p. 1). Medicare payments to a hospital will be adjusted down if the hospital does not meet the quality standards of Medicare. Length of stay is a quality indicator used by Medicare to evaluate a hospital's performance. Are larger hospitals better able to deal with the HACRP than smaller rural hospitals and if so, why?
