(1) TO BE ANSWER IN 125 WORDS ONLY FROM YOUR OWN OPINION

I work at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center (OUPHSC) as a Registered Medical Assistant in the Plastic Surgery Clinic. OUPSC has three control systems in place to ensure all employees which are consistent with the organization’s mission in our patient centered environment. They are:AIDET,PACCT, andPSS.

Before we talk about the control systems, we need to understand the companies core values, mission, vision, and commitments.

Core Values

  1. We believe that caring for our patients must be at the center of all we do

  2. Act with honesty and integrity (Integrity is doing what is right when no one is looking)

  3. Respect our colleagues and co-workers

  4. Magnify our effectiveness through teamwork

  5. Improve continually through harnessing innovation and encouraging high performance

  6. Believe in open and effective communication

  7. Committed to providing outstanding educational programs

  8. Be a leader in the advancement of basic, translational, and clinical research.

  9. Embrace our social responsibilities with pride.

Mission Statement

“At OU Medicine, our mission is leading health care – in patient care, education, and research. Through our combined efforts we strive to improve the lives of all people”.

Vision statement

“Our vision is to be the premier health system for advancing medical care, education and research in the state, and to be among the leaders nationally.”

Commitment to Quality and Safety

  • Achieve superior, measurable clinical outcomes

  • Give constant attention to patient safety, comfort, and convenience

  • Ensure efficient and effective clinical operations

  • Be among the highest ranking health care providers, as designated by both regulatory and health care scoring systems.

Commitment to the Community

  • We will grow the enterprise to better serve patients and the community, ensure continued support and focus on the fundamental missions of teaching and research.

  • With a focus on quality, we will achieve the highest standards of patient care and innovation by implementing and continually enhancing a robust self-evaluation system and provide the highest quality education programs for all levels of learners.

  • By responsible management and accountability of what has been entrusted to us, we commit to fiscal responsibility, collaborative planning and adaptability to change.

  • With a spirit of service, we provide compassionate and seamless care, exceed our patients’ expectations; ensure an organizational culture of respect and communication.

AIDET

Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you

Acknowledge, knock and pause, smile, handshake, eye contact

Introduce self and others, explain role, skill set, manage up

Duration, how long things will take, set expectations, be clear

Explanation, simple terms, what to expect, questions

Thank you, close with appreciation

This control system has been in place for approximately eight years. It is measured by patient satisfaction. We are also tested on it yearly and have secret patient shoppers that come in and rate us on how we did.

PACCT

People, Accountable, Collaborative, Compassionate, Transparent

To Protect thePeople we serve and serve with

To beAccountable to them, to ourselves, and to our communities, to passionately deliver excellence in patient care, education, and research

To beCollaborative andCompassionate in all our efforts, and

To beTransparent and act with integrity in all our work as a premier academic health system

This control systems has been in place for approximately two months. One of the main components, accountability, is in the for front of the business. I have been there seven months and I can attest to accountability being one component that needs work. I also believe that collaboration with other medical providers, internal and external, are in need of major communication over hall.

PSS

Patient Survey System

The Patient Survey System (PSS) is one of the most valuable control systems in place to help the organization meet its core values, vison, mission, and commitments. There are several ways that a patient can leave a survey; survey card, text message with link, email with link, and in their patient portal. They can also talk to a clinic manager while in clinic if they want to. Our clinic managers are always available during clinic hours to speak to a patient and or defuse a situation. We have a 95% rate of completion of surveys and score a 9.5 out of 10 for patient satisfaction.

(2) TO BE ANSWER IN 125 WORDS ONLY FROM YOUR OWN OPINION

What effective control systems does a health care organization have in place to ensure that different people with varying professional commitments and approaches are consistent with the organization's mission in a patient-centered environment?
A good effective leader has the trait to influence others to achieve certain goals. I will be describing three models that describe 1). how leaders use resources effectively and 2). how leaders grow and enable relationships with subordinates (Nahavandi, 2003).
There are three most frequently used models of effective resources: Fiedler's Contingency, Normative Decision Model, and Cognitive Resources Theory (CRT)..
The Fiedler's Contingency Model(2015) was developed by Fred Fiedler which motivated seemed to be most effective in high and low control situations with the power to influence individual's behavior. The relationship motivated style is deemed to be the best Research has proven that socio-independent type leaders perform better when their control is rated high (Verchio, 1997).
The second model, Normative Decision Model is a decision making tree that gives leaders the ability to acquire knowledge and make a decision about the position of facts or condition of being involved in which to involve their attention. Within this model, a leader ask a number of things about the features of the problem, decision and consequences . After this, the leader can make a decision as to what extent the employees should have in processing a decision. In essence, this model can be developed by asking experts exactly how they make decisions (Nahavandi 2003).
finally, the Cognitive Resource Theory (CRT) holds that leader's cognitive resources ca be a liability or asset when it comes to leadership and group performance. Cognitive Resource Theory give careful thought to two factors: 1) experience and 2) intelligence. Experience is considered a skill and behavioral patterns are obtained by performing various task. On the other hand, intelligence is regarded as taking everything into account effectiveness, carefully considered by standardize intelligence test affecting how leaders react in accordance of stressful situations.
Personally I'm not familiar with the different resource theories leaders use; however, I experienced a theory that was used to determine the identity trait of a mother that was negligent to her children. She was intelligent book wise but could not seem to grasp hold of common sense. In addition, she was always taking classes for various subjects, never finishing anything, and always blaming someone else for problems they created.
