1. Use your text editor to open the roadtxt.htm file from the tutorial.07\case2 folder included with your Data Files. Enter your name and the date in the comment section of the file. Save the file as roadways.htm in the same folder.


2. Scroll down to the figure element and within the element insert a video element for the two source files trailridge.mp4 and trailridge.webm. Display the controls with the video clip. Set the width and height of the video clip to 320 pixels by 260 pixels.


3. Nest within the video element an object element to display the Flash player file trailridge.swf. Set the dimensions of the Flash player to 320 pixels wide by 260 pixels high.


4. If the user’s browser doesn’t support HTML5 video or Shockwave Flash, display the message, To play this clip you need the Shockwave Player. Include a link to the Web site where users can download the player.


5. Save your changes to the file, and then load the roadways.htm file in a browser that supports HTML5 video. Verify that you can play the video clip of the drive up Trail Ridge Road.


6. Display the file in a browser that doesn’t support HTML5 but does support Flash. Verify that you can view and play the Flash video of the ride up Trail Ridge Road.


7. Disable Flash in your browser and verify that the browser displays the message that you need to get Adobe Flash Player.


8. Re-enable Flash in your browser. Submit your completed files to your instructor, in either printed or electronic form, as requested.

Trail Ridge Road covers the stretch of U.S. Highway 34from Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado in the eastto Grand Lake, Colorado in the west. The road reaches a maximum elevation of12,183 feet near Fall River Pass. Trail Ridge Road is the highest pavedcontinuous highway in the United States, spending 10 miles above the tundraline. The road is closed from late fall until early summer due to thesnowpack at the higher elevations.





Travellers on Trail Ridge Road climb 4,000 feet in a matter of minutes.The changes that occur en route are dramatic. The drive begins in a forest ofaspen and ponderosa pine, but the terrain will soon change to forests of firand spruce. At 11,000 feet, drivers will encounter treeline and the laststunted trees which soon yield to heavy winds and the alpine tundra.





As you drive, be sure to stop and take in the views at Rainbow Curve,Many Parks Curve, and at Forest Canyon Overlook. On clear days, you can gazenorth to Wyoming and east down to the cities along the Front Range. Lookingsouth and west you can gaze further into the heart of the Rocky Mountains.Reserve at least half a day for the drive between Estes Park and GrandLake.
