Culture Medium
The food stuff on which microbes are grown or animal/plant tissue culture is performed is known
as; culture medium. This may vary in form and composition as per the organism/explant needed
to be grown and purpose of the culture. (Spinall and Kilsby, 1979)
To understand it clearly we may take example of a microbial culture medium. Here are few
aspects that should be kept in mind while preparation of it:
Composition of Culture media
A culture medium should be able to provide all the nutritional components that are essential for
the growth of a microbe for instance; it should consist of water, carbon & energy source,
nitrogen source, trace elements and growth factors etc. (Cundell, 2002)
