Netflix is often a bridging force between all sorts of people. There are TV shows and movies to target the interests of all. However, I was reading an article posted on CBC titled, "Cultural Faux Pas in Netflix Show Draws Ire From Japanese People From Canada and Beyond." Whats started as an innocent family TV hour, turned into a confusing read from a Japanese native living in Canada. The popular TV show has character holding signs with phrases in Japanese to make the viewers laugh, however to a Japanese person, the phrases make no sense and are just another hit to the Asian culture. The signs translate to things like, "envy will show you a rockless garden" and "The chosen one will use shisa's barks to stop the dragon's heart, but be careful, the user may face death." These phrases make absolutely no sense to anyone and just come off as an uneducated decision by the props person. The Cobra Kai staff was not thinking that by having there show on Netflix, the whole world is able to view and translate the language is their show. With anti-Asian news already on the forefront of many channels, this was a faux pau at this community. Taking the time and maybe a few extra dollars to properly translate a more fitting phrase could hve entirely eliminated thhis hit at the Asian culture. Language is one of the most valued pieces of a culture and tradition and to effectively manage a culture diversity, language needs to be respected.

The United States has always been seen as a strong, organized, most powerful economy, and perfect country to live in than some other countries within the world. However, the leaders that come along to present themselves to be the role model have many viewers with high expectations regarding how one will act and dress. Throughout the years there has been hiccups of former presidents and their spouses for not performing high as expected when visiting a different country. One must first realize that every country in the world thinks uniquely, and the United States standards are not the same as somewhere else in the world. What American people believe is fine may not be in a different country. Also, there are times where the American citizen's opinions have come through strongly about how his or her president and the First Lady should be dressing and acting. To further explain how United States Leaders impact his or her outfits towards other countries let me start off by giving examples.

For instance, when “First lady Hillary Clinton "baffled the Japanese" when she visited the country in April 1996 and only wore black attire.” (Montalti, 2022) The reason for Japanese reaction towards First Lady Hillary Clinton wearing that color is due to the fact that within the culture black symbolizes death and depression whereas white displays happiness. Another historical event is when Melania Trump visited Africa and wore a white helmet in which many people criticized her for this as it offended African citizens as it represented colonial ties. Also, when “First Lady Jill Biden wore patterned tights on April 1, 2021” (Montalti, 2022) that looked like fishnets displayed as informal in the United States. The American people believed that was very inappropriate for her to wear as she represents the United States and is expected to dress in a more fashionable appearance than casual look. Therefore, when an individual is a leader, one must always acknowledge the culture situation that will occur before he or she is attending an event to have a better understanding of what is expected of him or her.
