John is a farmer, however, due to his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis some time ago, he is now unable to work. John lives at home with his wife Nora; they have no children and have very little support. John’s deteriorating condition means they are finding it hard to cope and manage John’s symptoms. He is now dependent on services such as community nurses, home carers, Public Health Nurses and his G.P to meet his basic needs for survival in everyday life. As part of John’s condition, he is now experiencing partial paralysis, fatigue, lack of physical co-ordination, loss of bladder and bowel control. John has feelings of anxiety due to the nature of his illness. The fear of the future affects John’s moods, he worries about Nora and how she will cope when he is no longer around. Assessment Criteria/Marking Scheme: Introduce the client and give a brief description of their condition (2 mark) Identify 3 of the client’s care needs and how these are being met. Choose any 3 of the following: physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual.
