A mini literature-review assignment called "scientific date night". All requirements are in the assignment files; requirements are strict and you must stick to them.

PSYC 110: Research Paper #2 - Scientific Date Night How can you use science to help make the ‘perfect date night’? In this research paper, you are going to practice answering questions with psychological research. You will find psychological studies (literature) to support your ideas. Think about strategies people might use to increase their chances for a successful date. Brainstorm ideas on what you could do to make your date fall head over heels for you. Search the literature for scientific evidence to support your ideas. Always think critically about the evidence you find. How does it support your idea? For your written assignment, we would like you to each complete a ‘mini-literature review’. Please summarize two different date night ideas that you support with two different pieces of scientific evidence from the literature (i.e. two different empirical articles). Use tools such as google scholar to search for scientific literature to support your ideas. Describe your suggestions for the date and discuss the evidence you found to support each idea by briefly describing the experiment and findings. Briefly describe the most important, main points of the methods and results of the studies and the implications for your date night. Make sure you cite the research in your review using APA referencing style and have an appropriate ‘References’ section. You will have then successfully completed the ‘scientific date night’ assignment (as well as acquired a vast catalogue of ideas to choose from when you prepare your next date!). Some help: To find scientific articles in relation to a certain topic, you can for example use: • Google scholar • Web of Science • PubMed • Scientist’s personal webpages (Publication lists) • Specific journals. Please try to keep it under 800 words. Evaluation: *Clearly written, coherent structure *presents 2 different date night ideas *supports each idea with a relevant study in the literature (each idea should have its own study) *briefly describes each of the studies accurately (e.g what they did and what they found) *clearly demonstrates how each described study supports their date suggestion *each study has a correct accompanying APA style in-text citation and reference entry in the reference section *avoids vague and imprecise statements https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapastyle.apa.org%2Fstyle-grammar-guidelines%2Freferences%2Fexamples%2Fjournal-article-references&data=04%7C01%7Cstephanie.lazzaro%40yale.edu%7Ccbcc675c4dc14ddc70b708da140fe711%7Cdd8cbebb21394df8b4114e3e87abeb5c%7C0%7C0%7C637844355835388334%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=TSX9lnzgJePClw9Eq721ubnN1ehUnXHiNHcT%2FaJK%2Beg%3D&reserved=0 1 Finding Literature To find literature, you have of course more general options such as the Internet or the library, but there are also more specific ways to find sources for essays, presentations, or to satisfy your own curiosity: Google Scholar Google Scholar a freely accessible web search engine that indexes the full text or metadata of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. The Google Scholar index includes most peer-reviewed online academic journals and books, conference papers, theses, dissertations, and much more. In case you are not only looking for journal articles, or to get a first overview of a topic, Google Scholar is very useful. Search Tips: http://scholar.google.co.uk/intl/en/scholar/help.html Web of Science Web of Science is an online subscription-based scientific citation indexing service maintained by Thomson Reuters that provides a comprehensive citation search. It gives access to multiple databases that reference cross-disciplinary research, which allows for in-depth exploration of specialized sub-fields within an academic or scientific discipline. You will find all kinds of articles here and you have great options to refine your search by keywords, discipline(s) and to order search results by number of citations or publication date, for example. When you are looking at a paper you will also get suggestions of other related papers, you might be interested in. While it might take a little bit of practice to master this tool, it is an extremely useful and resourceful way of finding articles! It’s highly recommended. You can find most papers related to psychology here. This search engine is very useful in particular when you just quickly want to look at abstracts, or if you want to find references. Access: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed Scientist’s personal webpages If you know that a specific researcher is working on a topic you are interested in, it is often very useful to check out their personal webpages and their publication lists! This can provide you with a great overview of the work of a specific person and possibly with a very easy way to download and read their papers. Specific journals Sometimes you might also just want to look at what specific journals have published in relation to a topic. You can then consult their webpages directly.
