We aspire to this in the belief that a great university, which is a global leader in discovery, innovation, impact, education and thought leadership, can make an enormous difference to the lives of people in Australia and around the world. Following extensive consultation in 2015, we identified three strategic priority areas. Firstly, a drive for academic excellence in research and education. Universities are often classified as ‘research intensive’ or ‘teaching intensive’. UNSW is proud to be an exemplar of both. We are amongst a limited group of universities worldwide capable of delivering research excellence alongside the highest quality education on a large scale. Secondly, a passion for social engagement, which improves lives through advancing equality, diversity, open debate and economic progress. Thirdly, a commitment to achieving global impact through sharing our capability in research and education in the highest quality partnerships with institutions in both developed and emerging societies. We regard the interplay of academic excellence, social engagement and global impact as the hallmarks of a great forward-looking 21st century university. Abstract
The report is about how, as a student, I perceive learning from entry-level jobs in universities. This report highlights my expectations and skills, which I learnt and developed in my practice. This analysis is important for both employer and employee beca
use it help in bridging the gap between expectations from both the sides. These expectations influence my future performance of that of a Student Communications Assistant and other similar roles in the Public Relations’ field of job. As university is both research intensive and teaching intensive, it understands the importance of profile, in which it is recruiting students. The profile is designed in such a manner that it will provide definite learning outcome. Moreover, students such as me will get a chance to know their university and its principles more closely.
Job Expectation
When students take up job at university levels, they have certain expectations from that position. If those expectations are met from the ends of their employers and organization, it makes the students work towards their job more diligently. This is the same in my case too. Researchers have stressed that students expect to gain leadership and networking skills more importantly from their job at the Public Relations (PR) field[footnoteRef:1]. I possess better evaluation skills as compared to managers. Hence, I can expect that with time, this prospective job of Student Communications Assistant will help me in enhancing my evaluation skills from that of the perspective of a leader. On the other hand, generally, Graduates and Student Communications Staffs end up overestimating their skills and expect higher salaries than being offered by their employers[footnoteRef:2]. As a student, I feel that if I am getting a job, then I should just be able to meet my expenses from a respectable job and even in my university. My innovative approach carried by me might bring freshness in the thoughts in the workplace. [2: Joshua R. Knapp, Brett R. Smith, and Therese A. Sprinkle. "Is it the job or the support? Though I lack managerial skills and practical skills as per the current industry standards, yet, my attitude towards work, openness to learn more in new environment and increased self-confidence are some areas, which I want to improve upon while being in this position. When I am able to link my higher studies to my applied work profile, then I will increase the scope of linkage between universities, corporates and students.
Apart from theoretical knowledge, I also expect that that...
