The report focuses on Marks and Spencer as the prime service providing company. In the report the reason behind choosing Marks and Spencer as the prime company is discussed. The main focus in prescribed on the supply chain and operations of the company, considering the main operational process opted by the company for producing their different varieties of products. The supply chain involved with the production till the delivery of the product is framed efficiently in the report. Introduction
Mark and spencer are one of the major multinational retailers having its headquarters in London. The company has its specialization in selling several products including clothing, home products and food products under its own level. The company is counted among the successful brands since years. The company was founded in 1884 and currently the company has 959 stores across the UK among which 615 stores only sell food products. The company also have its online food delivery service through a joint venture with Ocado. In this report the M&S is channelized as the prime company on which the whole report is based on. The company operates its vast retail chain by properly managing all its department whether it is the marketing, operation, supply chain or the sales.in this report the company operational and supply chain process is focused on.
Service Introduction and Justification
The service considered here is M&S which is one of the biggest retail chains of UK. The company has its specialization in numerous products and all of them are contributing equally in the success of the company but in this report the company’s clothing range is focused much upon. Introducing the service the M&S was founded in 1884 by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer. In the year 1998 the company became the first British retailer to make a pre-tax profit of around 1 billion Euros. The company keep on growing with the changing time and keep on adapting the prevalent conditions. The company evolution can be observed by the fact that the company is channelizing its reach to its customers through both the online as well as the offline mode. M&S continued to sustain and establish its position in the marker due to its frequent policies and plans (Cole, Stevenson & Aitken, 2019).
The reason behind opting M&S as the service company is that it is one of the biggest retail chains having numerous of its stores present worldwide. The main focus is garnered upon the clothing range as it will help in analyze how the company is complying as per the changing fashion industry. Through channelizing the supply chain and the operation process followed by the company a lot of information could be gathered regarding how the big companies manages its supply chain operations all over. The main agenda behind opting for the M&S is to seek the knowledge regarding how a company having numerous stores that too present worldwide accomplishes its supply chain need and demand. It will help me in analyzing what are the basic supply chain management and the operations theory the company adopts that help it in constantly managing the situation and leading it to be one of the most successful brands. Another reason is that the company has its specialization in numerous products it would be very absolute to identify how the company manages all these throughout.
Product Design Process    
The design process is accounted proficiently in order to look after the process through which the products are produced and dispatched. The company used the design process much proficiently as the prime process in their product development. The company clothing unit most considerably rely upon the design process. The M&S is the company which eventually manufacture their own product at their own manufacturing plant to ensure the quality of the product and its durability as well. The company focuses on the concept that specifies the value of its clothing ranges, package that showcases the product which provides the benefits defined in the concept and the process that defines the way the products are being manufactured. The process involved in the producing of the product at the company includes the components like transformed resources, technical information, market research, time management, transforming resources, testing, and facilities and staffing. During the manufacturing of the products the company ensure quality, speed, dependability, flexibility and low cost in order to satisfy the needs of the customer (Jones & Comfort, 2019).
The company focuses on the value-cost engineering during the manufacturing of the products. The company focus on the cheaper materials that would help them in comply with the costs but the company ensure that though the cheaper material is used but the quality of the product should not be compromised. The company focuses on its components, the market demand and then conduct the market research so that the products produced by the company should accomplish the demand and the requirements of the company. The customer segmentation is also considered in order to develop the products as per the needs and demand of the customer.
