The militant Party of Self-Defense's reputation has been largely misconstrued. Rachel Martin chats with individual supporter Bobby Seale and Stephen Shames, who shot the social gathering from 1967 to 1973.  Fifty years earlier this month, a small amount of get-together of African-American activists in Oakland got together and picked to require a substitute quite a framework within the fight for social freedoms. They outlined what was from the beginning called the activist Party of Self-Defense (ph), and it took after an oversized number of sorts. People wore berets and dim calfskin coats. They passed on rifles. To the organizations they served, the Black Panthers were seen as vigilantes. However, to law approval, they were a peril. 
The very articulation "dim power" continues polarizing, making some appalling and happy, consistently along racial lines.
