According to the Brundtland Report (1987), the concept of sustainability includes economic, social and environmental perspectives and the report’s sustainable development definition is as follows, “Sustainable development is the development that provides the needs of the present without compromising the capability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (Brundtland Report, 1987; WTO, 1998). From this viewpoint, the definition might be applied on the hospitality industry as ‘An operation that manages its resources in such a way that economic, social and environmental benefits are maximized in order to meet the need of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Sloan et al.., 2013).’ In hospitality industry, economic sustainability received preliminary attention because of its necessity for companies to stay alive, where environmental issues received more attention lately by means of the Brundtland Report (Björnefors and Kjellsson, 2014). On the other hand, the social sustainability in terms of hospitality might be mentioned as ignored at a certain point (Van Rheede and Blomme, 2013).
