The following is the reflective journal for 11-week course based on the project management. It involves different terms and the concepts which are related with the management of the project and how they can have impact over the successful implementation of project. We discussed about the triple constraint of project management. With this week I was able to understand the project management and the key elements of this framework which includes the project management knowledg
e areas, project success, common tools and the techniques and project stakeholders. The discussion was done about the concept of project phase and the project lifecycle. It might seem that the project development and product development are the same things, but they are different which I learned with this week. It includes the unique attributes, and the diverse nature of the information technology projects.
Week 1
In the first week we learned about the basics of project quality and the management. The discussion was all about what is project quality and how it has impact over the solution. With the first week I was able to understand the growing requirements to have the better project management specially if we talk about the information technology projects. It explained what the project is with the help of examples of the IT projects, and it also listed out different attributes of the projects. We discussed about the triple constraint of project management. With this week I was able to understand the project management and the key elements of this framework which includes the project management knowledge areas, project success, common tools and the techniques and project stakeholders. Discussed about the relationship present between the portfolio management, project and the program along with the contributions which are made by each of them into the success. It described the project management profession which includes its history, role of the professional organizations, advancement of the project management software and importance of the certification and ethics. We also discussed about the advantages of having formal project management. It can provide better control of the human resources, physical and financial resources.
Week 2
In the second week we discussed about the systems view of the project management and how it is applied for the project developed in the information technology. It is important to understand the organization, and this can be done with the four frames. We discussed about the organizational structures and their culture. We learned why the stockholder management and the top management committee are very important to have the successful implementation of the project. The discussion was done about the concept of project phase and the project lifecycle. It might seem that the project development and product development are the same things, but they are different which I learned with this week. It includes the unique attributes, and the diverse nature of the information technology projects. It discusses about the recent trends which can affect the IT project management and these trains are outsourcing, agile project management, globalization and virtual teams. The system approach was used to describe the analytical approach for managing and solving the problem. It has three parts which are system philosophy to show the overall model of thinking about the things system analysis which is used as the problem-solving approach and the last is system management which is used to address business organizational and technological issues. Week 3
