After reading the Smith text and the other readings, and watching the video interview with Akbar Ahmed, summarize what you understand to be the basic issues surrounding Islam in the global community today, how they came to be, and how they relate to authentic, historic Islam.
What did you learn from Dr. Ahmed that you might have missed in everything else you have heard or read to date?
What we are looking for here is a genuine grasping of basic issues here, not opinion or surface commentary. Where there is strong diversity of opinion, try to state the opposing views and/or solutions as clearly and honestly as possible.
