Aim
This assignment aims to provide grounding in urban design research methods based in theory, through undertaking field research of a specific place. The theory/method is to be critically discussed.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this assignment students should be able to demonstrate:
●Understand in detail urban design research theory/methods through a field case-study
●Ability to critically appraise an urban design theory/method in the context of application for a particular research case study,
●Ability to effectively communicate understanding of the above
Assignment Overview
This assignment constitutes 40% of the course assessment and provides you with the opportunity to select one from four nominated urban design theory/methods to apply in one of five urban centres.

In each case the key aspects of the theory and method are to be explored through empirical (fieldwork) study of the selected site and research topic, and the theory is to be critically reflected upon.
In each case the student researcher, in the context of the theory that is being explored, must decide the exact boundary of study.
