Dissertation 1: “Leadership and work engagement: Exploring explanatory mechanisms” by Decuypere & Schaufeli 
The first dissertation is focused on solving the problem associated with understanding
the psychology of employees and how leadership influences employee psychology. As human nature is subjective, therefore, employees in a company could react differently to different policies and initiatives by the employer. This dissertation has explored multiple leadership models to determine how employee psychology get influenced. The researcher Decuypere & Schaufeli (2020) used a deductive approach by reviewing multiple theories associated with leadership. The theories are categorized into three different processes those are one direct process, two indirect processes, and five pathways. These five pathways consist of practical, affective, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral.
The researcher in the study developed multiple research questions. Decuypere & Schaufeli (2020) conducted the study to understand the relationship between positive leadership style and engagement among the employees. In addition, three different factors have been identified, and how these factors directly influence employee engagement has been stated. These three factors consist of emotional contagion, social exchange, and role modeling. The association between different theoretical viewpoints as well as joint mechanisms in the effectiveness of positive leadership style has been identified through the study.
In the current study, the researcher adopted a deductive approach where multiple theories related to leadership have been selected. Under each leadership style, how it has impacted the engagement aspect of employees has been disclosed. A model has been developed in the paper where it has been mentioned that positive leader behavior influences material pathway and motivational pathway, which eventually reflect on employee work engagement.
