Conduct an interview with an expatriate. 2. Identify and analyse three international HRM issues for the expatriate. 3. Critically evaluate the three IHRM issues involved with this specific expatriate. 4. Make recommendations as to how the organisation can address issues raised. 5. A Research Report is required. What are you aiming for? In Assessment 2 you will be conducting an exploratory in-depth interview with an expatriate to learn something new about the person’s work experience, rather than testing something that is known. In essence, it is a conversation with an individual who can give you information about an organisation’s international human resource management practices. Identify and analyse three international HRM areas faced by the expatriate when working in another country. Possible topic areas can be drawn from the prescribed textbook such as the, selection criteria, culture, dual career couples, re-entry/repatriation and career issues. Compensation has not been included as a topic due to privacy and sensitivity issues. Your participant (expatriate) can be from your workplace, or a friend or family member. They can be either a company-assigned expatriate or a self-initiated expatriate. They can be on a short-term, extended or longer-term assignment; or engaged in non-standard arrangements such as commuter, rotator, or contractual. They can be working in a giant multi-national enterprise (MNE), a small to medium-size enterprises (SME), or in a government entity, regional trade body, or charity. Your participant must have worked or be working in another country. Participation is on a voluntary basis. It is suggested that you ask someone early and also consider an alternative interviewee should your first choice become unavailable. Explain to your participant that information will be coded and that information is for assessment purposes only and will not be published in any form outside of the assignment paper itself. Please note that approval to conduct the research component of this assignment has been granted by the SCU Ethics Committee. This is an exploratory qualitative piece of research. You can use semi-structured questions.Prepare your questions in advance. The interview should have a clear purpose. The purpose is gaining the perspective of an expatriate explaining HRM principles and practices involved. The interviewee should know in general what sorts of questions will be asked and the approximate length of the interview. The interview can be conducted face-to-face,or by telephone, Skype or WebEx. It would be useful to provide the questions beforehand so that the participant has some time to develop some planned responses. Use your prescribed textbook as a beginning framework for the development of the questions and use additional and more recent scholarly theory to help develop your questions. You will draw on the topics of this unit and refer to the literature from the textbook, readings and your own research

Abstract
By the virtue of this report, I have gained immense knowledge on the management of expatriates, understanding different issues that they faces
and importance of the resolving such issues for a productive workforce. Any company that aims to go global with its business, one of the most integral question that need to focus is how to reduce the employee gap in its operations present worldwide. An organization that is present in multiple locations always have to decide whether a position needs to be filled by someone from parent country or employee from host country or national from third country. The international flow of employees due to immense expansion of international operations it is associated with human resources management across global borders. There are lot of parameters that influence this decision like requirement of position, availability of local talent, degree of control envisaged by parent organization etc. Last two decades there has been unparalleled increase in the organizations that have operations all across the globe.
Introduction
With the prevalence of globalization, today the economy is referred, as global economy demands employee base that are comfortable working with employees from different cultures and geographies. One of the driving force most of the multi-national, large sized and even mid-sized organizations provide opportunities to their employees to work from abroad. However, most of the companies observe dissatisfaction in expats and most often, they resume back to work in their home country. Essentially, primary reason for issues faced by expats is that most of the organizations assume that rules of business are identical all over the world. For instance, government rules and regulations differs in each country, also ways to negotiate and marketing varies as per culture.
One of the primary of consequence globalization and industrialization is expatriation. However, there are many situations witnessed by global organizations, those results into premature homecoming of expats because of unsuccessful projects or lack of retention of returned expatriates because of failed efforts of repatriation. In order to minimize the attrition of talented expats and reducing the costs with the failure of expats, many organizations are focusing to enhance their capability to handle their expats and map their journey from the start until they are well settled back in their home country
Research and Data
Technically, there are two exclusive principal research tactics for conducting exploratory and empirical study, it can be quantitative and qualitative. Qualitative research is mainly associated with words, sentiments of individuals and focuses on individual meanings taking into consideration complexities that comes inherently. While on other hand, quantitative research usually focuses on objectivity, generalization and analyzing numbers.
Targeting the mission of this research, qualitative form of research was taken in operations. This research is a case study and the data gathered is by semi-structured interviews and comprehended by implementing theme analysis followed by narrative analysis. Below section provides details on the research strategy undertaken, procedure for data collections as well as process of data analysis along with the philosophical assumptions and the trustworthiness of the study.
Philosophical Assumptions Considered in the Research
Essentially, human nature can be elaborated as the relationship between other human beings with their environment. The aim of research focuses on the subjective experience and interpretations of such individual experiences, thereby inclining to the subjectivist approach.
Case Study used as Research Strategy
One of the most popular method of research is case study and can be considered largely as the exploratory technique of performing fieldwork. Therefore, most of the discussion on such research is based on observations of participant and fieldwork as a method of collection of data. By the virtue of case study, we aim for in-depth investigation of phenomena in context over an interval of time. Especially, in this research, case study method provides us exclusive advantage since our primary mission is to develop a deep understanding of different issues faced by expatriation and work on methods to resolve the challenges. This research is largely qualitative and based on intrinsic interest in the expats profiles thereby focusing on exploratory as well as descriptive.
Semi-structured Interviews as Data Collection Method
In this research, data was gathered by the virtue of semi-structured interview with the expatriate. Focus was on interviews as a method of data collection providing the opportunity to the interviewees to candidly describe and disclose their stories and experiences. Semi-structured interviews empowered interviewees to be candid as well as effortlessly describe their interpretations and experiences. Primarily, broad themes were prepared such that it could guide the progression of the interviews. The expat to be interviewed was allowed to advance topics as per his/her preferences and most often interviews did not follow the structure of questions that was prepared. The outline of interview consisted of three essential sections that connected the entire interview. First section is to provide the interviewee their background with questions related to their age, nationality, gender, language skills, and educations as well as earlier. My intention with these questions was to flourish fundamental understanding of expatriates as individuals. These background questions were further followed by four more questions on the experience of expats, career trajectory and lifestyle consideration as well as expectations and perceived value of the experience. Aim of these questions framed was to comprehend the experience that expatriates faced in detail and how it would influences the career and personal life. Third section of the interview was structured to enclose learning along with adjustment process of expatriates.
Organization of Interviews
Conducting face to face to interview that are resulted in 4 hours and 10 minutes. Interviewee were given comprehensive details of the research premises and voluntary willingness to share was considered. I leveraged my family network for gathering potential interviewee. The selected interviewee presented a different nationality and were located in different host countries. During his time abroad, he worked across various industries and companies. The interviewee...
