Purpose



The purposes of this assignment are to:


● to sharpen your observational skills;


● to apply relevant theory/theories to an infant or toddler.



Instructions for students who were NOT able to complete the observation and interview


Assess your own relationship as an infant/child with one of your own caregivers (chose a particular age to use for the sake of the assignment)


Assess your own cognitive and social-emotional development as an infant/child;


Test theories to see how well they help you understand your own development as an infant/child;


Write an analysis paper that clarifies your own development as an infant/child;



The peer evaluation is eliminated since some students are completing the alternative assignment.



Volunteer and Consent (Week1)

No consent is required.



Part B - Interview / Assessment (Week 2) No interview is necessary for this assignment



Part C - Analysis Paper (Week 3)



Compose a 5 - 6 page analysis of your experience.



  • ● The paper must adhere to APA (6th edition) style and formatting and incorporate a minimum of four (4) references.

  • ● Include the following:


○ Introduction of yourself as the infant/toddler and caregiver


○ Provide a holistic description of yourself as the infant/toddler and caregiver. Be descriptive so the reader can visualize the infant/toddler in a humanistic manner.


○ Include: features of Hispanic culture (or the culture of your family if not Hispanic), environment, cultural contexts and interactions, protective factors and challenges, organizations and systems.


○ Include:


a) a critical reflection addressing yourself as the infant/toddler and your caregiver


b) insight into your own cultural lens, and c) any impacts it had on your ability to write the paper.

Introduction
When looking
at infant and the childhood attachment from a psychological perspective then there are several implications for a child’s psychological development, which will shape the future interpersonal relationship the child when grown up, will have with others. West and Iverson (2017) have further added that at first it is very vital to examine the relationship between the child and the primary caregiver, because primary caregiver is one who provides child with comfort, nurturing and the make an environment where the child or infant feels safe and secure.
I have been given the responsibility to conduct an interview to analyze the relationship between a toddler and caregiver. The reason behind conducting this interview is because, it is very important to make an analysis from the practical basis because the theoretical aspects will not give a clear idea about the exact nature of the relationship. During the interview was kept sure that the confidentiality of the infant, their parents and caregiver is well protected, as an unbiased opinion will be received.
During the ongoing process of interview, I have noticed that child was interacting well with the caregiver and there was no instance, which seemed that the child behaved abnormally. Even when I tried to interact with the child, the response was positive and there was a smile and freeness in the nature. As the child showed good signs then it can be easily assumed that the child was well treated. Further, I asked what activities the caregiver involves the child into because it is very important to have a perfect neurobiological development of a child.
Carvalho et al. (2016) have discussed that the neurobiological development is the bonding ad attachment that takes place between a responsive caregiver and strengthen the child’s social networks in the brain because when the caregiver is responsive then the child’s sympathetic nervous system is activated producing high levels of nor-epinephrine and dopamine that provides the child pleasure and happiness.
These kinds of pleasurable experiences will further lend themselves to the implicit memory that is present at birth, which provides the framework for neural networks in the child’s first few years of development. The first few years are very crucial for a child because it shapes their entire life.
