In this essay, we will compare Amazon's GTP automation with Target's current warehouse management system and explain why Target should adopt GTP automation. Amazon's GTP automation involves using automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) and conveyor belts to transport products directly to workers instead of workers walking to retrieve products from storage shelves. This process increases the efficiency of warehouse operations and reduces the likelihood of worker injuries. Additionally, GTP automation allows for more precise inventory management, reducing the chances of stockouts or overstocking (Gaudioso & Pezzella, 2020). In contrast, Target's warehouse management system relies on a manual approach, with workers manually picking and moving products from storage shelves to shipping containers. This system is more time-consuming and labour-intensive, which increases labour costs and reduces overall efficiency. There are several reasons why Target should adopt GTP automation. First, by reducing the amount of time workers spend walking around the warehouse, GTP automation will increase the number of products that workers can pick and ship in a given amount of time. This increased efficiency will reduce labour costs and allow Target to process more orders, leading to increased revenue.
Second, GTP automation allows for more precise inventory management. This is especially important for Target, which has struggled with stockouts and overstocking in the past.
