An exudate from an infected leg wound on a 25-year old man was cultured on blood agar plate and MAC plate. Direct smear examination showed numerous WBC’s and a moderate number of gram-positive cocci in pairs and clusters and few gram-negative bacilli. After overnight incubation, two colony morphotypes were visible on the BAP. The first was a medium β-hemolytic, which was yellowish-white and creamy-buttery looking.
