Introduction
Most people consider giftedness a great blessing, however, giftedness in children is not always a happy journey. On the contrary, it is often a lonely and unsettling reality for parents. Most parents are unprepared for it and in many cases, unable to talk about i
t as the demands of gifted children may differ greatly from the demands of a regular child. This highlights the needs for inclusion or exclusion in early childhood education and care settings for children who are gifted. Australia has set up the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talents (AAEGT) for gifted children. It forms the national advocacy association with each state and territory having an association affiliated to it. Most of these are voluntary associations that provide assistance and resources to families and teachers with regards to gifted children.
Giftedness can become apparent in infants, toddlers and young children and as a result have an impact on their development, behaviour and learning. This brings about the need to care for them in a special manner and to provide for them and fulfil their needs differently. The case of Lily is one such demonstrative example. While Lily looks like a normal child, who bites other kids, like many other kids sometimes do, her act of biting shows that she is wanting for attention and protesting some need that is not being fulfilled. Once she is shifted to the room of 2-year-olds, her biting is resolved. This shows that her need has been fulfilled and that as her psychologist mentioned, she is a gifted child who has reached the mental age of 2-year-olds already.

It is important to recognize and support gifted children in a manner that is appropriate to them. This support must encompass both gifted children as well as their parents in order to reassure them and ensure that they are getting the backing they need. The website Born to Soar, for example, provides services to recognize Gifted Talent by meeting with gifted educators. They also offer one day school courses that can help channel and develop the genius of little children (Born to Soar, n.d.). Australian gifted support centre also offers assessment for gifted children as well as support groups services. Their operations span, ACT, WA and South East NSW. They offer, tutoring and support services amongst others (Australian Gifted Support Centre, 2021). Gifted NSW provides a range of resources that are interesting for gifted children including arts, science, maths and general sciences (Gifted NSW, n.d.). In addition to providing support for parents and teachers, AAEGT also offers opportunities for fun learning to little children.
