s objectives to maintain their primary care giving roles and also to uphold the standards of the profession to the best of their abilities.

I am a nurse working in a hospital that primarily deals with people with disabilities.

As a nurse in a hospital that primarily deals with people suffering from disabilities that range both from physical to cognitive impairments my role as a care giver varies extensively. The primary objective is to provide all-round care of the patients. Since the disabilities include loss of gross and fine motor function, loss of sensory abilities, impairment in social and emotional development, lack of cognitive abilities or even complete mental retardness, my role is to assist with the daily needs of the patients under my care. My major responsibility is to administer proper medications that have been prescribed by the doctors, assist the physical and occupational therapist and also to monitor the constant wellbeing of the patients. Since many of the patients are unable to perform daily activities like walking, brushing and even clothing themselves, it is my role to help them in such activities. Several patients also suffer from sensory or cognitive disabilities that need special attention. Therefore, as a nurse the roles and responsibilities vary according to the needs of the patients, but the primary goal remains, which is to provide care.
