Introduction:

Identifying an area of research interest related to Public Health is the starting point of the research journey. Within the field of Public Health, there has always been a need for practitioners to remain up to date with changes in practice and ensure they deliver evidence informed services.

Students would develop an understanding of the use of qualitative and quantitative methods of research. Carrying out a literature review enables students to gain a deeper understanding of an area of interest relevant to their future profession.

Completion of this assignment will address the following learning outcomes:

3

Select an appropriate area of research and design an appropriate small scale research study

5

Verbally articulate and validate chosen research proposal

Task: Viva oral questions on research interest LO 3, 5

You will present some Viva oral questions on research of your interest (10-15 minutes) related to your chosen area of research interest. In addition you will have a series of one to one tutorials with your module tutor during which you will demonstrate your ability to meet learning outcomes and discuss ethical consideration.

Page BreakGuidance notes and considerations

You can limit research questions to a minimum of 3 questions.

Late Submission

If you are not able to complete your coursework on time due to extenuating circumstances, the ONLY way to receive an extension (up to 5 working days) or a deferral (anything longer than 5 working days) is to contact a Registry team member located at your specific CU site.

CU Coventry – [email protected]

CU London – [email protected]

CU Scarborough – [email protected]

* Extenuating circumstances are defined by CU as ‘genuine circumstances beyond your control or ability to foresee, and which seriously impair your assessed work’.

* Please note that you will need to provide third party evidence to support your reasoning for requiring an extension or deferral.

* Your course tutor is NOT able to approve an extension or a deferral, if you have not completed the official forms and had your request approved your work will count as not submitted and receive a zero mark.

Plagiarism and Malpractice

* You are encouraged to check the originality of your work by using the draft Turnitin links on your Moodle Web.

* Collusion between students (where sections of your work are similar to the work submitted by other students in this or previous module cohorts) is taken extremely seriously and will be reported to the academic conduct panel. This applies to all coursework and exam answers.

* A marked difference between your writing style, knowledge and skill level demonstrated in class discussion, any test conditions and that demonstrated in a coursework assignment may result in you having to undertake a Viva Voce in order to prove the coursework assignment is entirely your own work.

* If you make use of the services of a proof reader in your work you must keep your original version and make it available as a demonstration of your written efforts.

* You must not submit work for assessment that you have already submitted (partially or in full), either for your current course or for another qualification of this university, unless this is specifically provided for in your assignment brief or specific course or module information.

Where earlier work by you is citable, ie. it has already been published/submitted, you must reference it clearly. Identical pieces of work submitted concurrently will also be considered to be self-plagiarism.

Submission Guidelines

There should be a title page which clearly identifies the following;

* Name of the module

* Title of the Assessment* Assessment number

1. Introduction
Health of all the individuals collectively in society could be considered as public health. However, officially, public health is considered as a wider concept and it includes the science and art of preventing disease. Further, public health also includes improving the quality of life through organised efforts as well as collective choices of society, organisations, communities as well as individuals. Public health issues refer to diseases or health concerns, which affects a wider section of society or have the potential to affect a wider section of society.
Taking into consideration the current scenario, COVID-19 (corona virus) has been posing a huge threat to the society. This is majorly because COVID-19 developed from an outbreak to a global pandemic and till now no vaccine, medicine or full proof treatment have been developed, which further raises the level of concern towards public health. Therefore, this research proposal will discuss the ways to study public health concerns through COVID-19 as an example of current health issue.
1.1 Background of the Study
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2’ (SARS-CoV-2) was first identified from China in December 2019. First case for this disease has been traced back to 17 November 2019 in Wuhan, China. COVID-19 initiated as an outbreak within China; however, it emerged as a pandemic within next 3 months affecting countries all over the globe. As of now, more than 9.23 million cases have been reported to be infected with this disease across 188 countries resulting into 476,000 deaths across the globe.
Symptoms of this disease have been reported to be identical with common cold or flu with common symptoms including cough, fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of smell, taste and only in some cases this disease progresses into acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Incubation time of this virus since the time of exposure has been reported to be varying typically from around 5 days to 14 days.
Coronavirus have been reported to spread through lifestyle patterns such as, physical contact from infected individuals, water droplets released from body of infected individual while coughing or sneezing, through phlegm and much more. As supported by Jordan et al. (2020), pharmaceutical companies as well as researchers have been working on developing a full proof treatment for this disease; however, until now they have not received any success. Further, studies have also presented that elder individuals are more prone towards acquiring the acute symptoms of this disease, if transmitted from an infected person. Qian et al. (2020), through their study on COVID-19 transmission within family cluster, represented that among nine family members, elder members presented severe symptoms after transmission from younger individuals in the family. Therefore, lifestyle habits such as shaking hands, hugging, holding hands, touching, eating together and much more could have a significant impact on the increasing transmission rate of this disease.
1.2 Problem Statement
Currently, COVID-19 pandemic has made countries helpless in controlling this disease. Lack of treatment and availability of healthcare services for infected individuals is emerging as major issue. Transmission of this disease could be highly dependent upon the lifestyle choices of individuals.
1.3 Rationale of the Research
There are numerous activities or lifestyle functioning, which individuals perform throughout the day such as going to work, travelling, use of public transport, physical contact, sharing things among each other and much more. Further, corona virus has been reported to be transmitted through coming in contact with infected individuals. Therefore, there are high chances that lifestyle choices of individuals could be one of the major factors, leading to increasing rate of COVID-19 infection in UK.
Further, as supported by Bai et al. (2020), numerous cases have been reported where the virus carrier was reported to be asymptomatic in the family; however, other members of the family as well as individuals around them were found to be infected with COVID-19 and were symptomatic. Therefore, lifestyle choices of an individual needs to be analysed in order to identify the pattern or significant correlation between the transmission and lifestyle choice.
Moreover, lack of awareness among individuals as well as lack of conclusive researches regarding this disease does not provide enough information regarding the exact mode of transmission or the accurate source, through which individual might have received the infection. Therefore, it would be essential to identify the relation between lifestyle choices and the transmission of this disease.
1.4 Research Aim
The presented analysis proposed here would aim to analyse the impact of lifestyle choices on the rate of transmission of COVID-19. This study would specifically be in context to UK and researcher would tend to investigate the lifestyle choices, which could be involved with the transmission of this disease.
1.5 Research Objectives
· To understand the various concepts related to transmission of COVID-19 in UK
· To critically analyse the mode of transmission
· To identify and relate the lifestyle choices leading to increased transmission rate of COVID-19 in UK
1.6 Research Questions
· What are the modes of transmission of COVID-19?
· Is there any difference between transmissions...
