Assessment Description

This assignment requires you to create a 5-10-minute audio recording that tells the story of a family. The transcript of your recording including references is to be submitted with your audio file for text-matching purposes.

You will develop your audio recording as a speech to present to a fictional group of senior leaders of the Department of Health, who are meeting to consider the health budget and resourcing needed for the year ahead. Your speech has been given a timeslot in their meeting, providing you with a brief opportunity to highlight the role of primary care and the impact of social determinants on family health and wellbeing.

You will do this by reflecting on the story and experiences of a family that you have worked with while on clinical placement or have become aware of in the community. You can use a real family story that has been de-identified or a fictional family story. Your chosen family can be in a rural or urban setting. If you use AI to develop your family story,

ensure you us

e it to create the outline only and then adapt in it your own words

to meet the context of the assignment. You also need to acknowledge all use of AI. Please refer to

UC guidelinesLinks to an external site.

for how to use/reference AI.

The family story you use in this assessment will also inform Assessment 3 - please see Assessment 3.

Your speech should integrate the key concepts and principles of social justice, and the relationship of identity, family, culture, and environment on health outcomes. Strengths-based approaches and child and family-centred nursing principles need to be incorporated throughout. The health systems and resources that endorse primary care concepts and promote family flourishing specific to your chosen family need to be demonstrated. Use contemporary evidence that is sourced from the reading list to support your narrative.

Assessment Instructions

  1. Choose a Family: Select a real or fictional family for your case study. Ensure the family has diverse backgrounds and experiences to provide a rich context for analysis.

  2. Family Description: Describe the family, including their cultural, social, and economic background, and any relevant health conditions. This should provide a comprehensive overview of the family's situation.

  3. Strengths and Barriers: Identify and discuss the strengths and resources the family possesses. Highlight any barriers they face in maintaining their health and wellbeing in relations to their social determinants of health, and their social justice requirements. This analysis should show an understanding of the family's resilience and challenges.

  4. Primary Health Care Role: Examine the role of primary health care and the primary care services required to address the family's health needs. Discuss how these services can promote the family's wellbeing.

  5. Reflection on Influences: Reflect on how identity, family, culture, and environment influence child health outcomes. This reflection should demonstrate an understanding of the broader factors affecting health.

  6. Nursing Principles: Use child and family-centred nursing principles throughout your discussion. Ensure your analysis and recommendations are grounded in these principles to provide holistic and compassionate care.
