Assignment description:

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the coronavirus pandemic could cut 50 million jobs globally in the travel and tourism industry. In Australia, Tourism employs one in 13 Australians and the government is struggling to keep the $80 billion tourism industry alive.

As the Australian government makes its plans for tourism recovery, you will create an innovative business startup by evaluating the world and circumstances surrounding Australia. Your business startup must be related to the Travel and Tourism Industry in Australia.

There is one tool that you can use to clearly communicate your business startup to investors, stakeholders and employees: the business model canvas.

Background:

What is a Business Model Canvas?

The business model canvas was invented byAlex Osterwalder, cofounder of Strategyzer. You can access theStrategyzersite to download templates and tutorials of the business model canvas and then adapt them to your own goals and needs. Osterwalder developed the business model canvas to addressnine componentswithin an organization:

  • Key partners. Who are the most important people involved?

  • Key activities. What activities drive the most value?

  • Key resources. What resources are needed to create value?

  • Value proposition. What key problems do your products or services solve?

  • Customer relationships. What do your customer segments expect from you?

  • Channels. How does your value proposition reach your customers?

  • Customer segments. Who are you creating value for?

  • Cost structure. What are the essential costs within your business?

  • Revenue streams. How do customers reward you for the value you provide?

When a business model canvas is filled out correctly, almost anyone can understand your business and its functions. They can see why customers love your business (or will love it) and how it is profitable.

Evolving consumer mindsets and behaviours, emerging technologies and platforms, and the relentless need to innovate and bypass competitors are among the biggest challenges and opportunities for travel and tourism industry brands.

For example, a recentstudy by Expedia Media Solutions found travellers are more concerned about their experiences than they are with getting the best deal early in the decision-making process. That puts the pressure on travel brands to truly think outside the box—across all stages of a traveller’s journey. There are many examples of start-up businesses in Australia in recent years.

Introduction
Tourism and Travel industry has been one of the most promising sectors of the business world; the opportunities of growth and establishing new business altogether exist in the same business sphere. In fact, Nepal (2020) views that tourism remains one of the hotspots of investment in Australian until the pandemic outbreak of Covid19 changed the conditions dramatically.
Due to the rapid increase of cases at global level, most of the nations—and Australia was one of the sincere nations such as the others, followed the guidelines published by World Health Organization. The impacts of Covid19 are massive over travel and tourism; the effects of lockdown can be seen in the form of less number of visitors appearing to the tourist spots (Scherrer, 2020).
However, the post covid19 conditions for starting up new business in this sector are again rising and Australian government has implemented encouraging policies accordingly. The following is the innovated business model of setting up new adventure tourism centre in Sydney, which will facilitate the visitors with several activities related to adventure (Rantala, Rokenes & Valkonen, 2018). At the same time, the business will serve the respected customers with lodging and booking the tickets along with assisting in making precise recommendations related to fine dining.
A Brief Overview of Travel and Tourism: Business Innovation Model in Adventure Tourism
At first, it is significant to note here that the segment of tourism and travel is preferred for having the low risks related to investments of capital. People across globe—in before and aftermath of the Covid19, such as travelling to the unseen places and that makes this industry standing ahead of others in the contemporary world (Sahebalzamani & Bertella, 2018). Australia is enlisted among the nations where the tourism related revenue generation is always higher than other business sectors.
Additionally, travel and tourism industry comes with attractive features such as the low investments, secured capital and utilisation of the minimum resources. As seen by Buckley (2017), with the rise of digitalisation, youth has turned out to be the targeted segment for the particular branch of this sector, which is adventure tourism. Adventure tourism attracts the young age customers who like participating in the adventurous activities such as hiking, sky diving and river rafting.
Considering the impacts of the Covid19 pandemic outbreak, Scherrer (2020) viewed that the adventure tourism can be something, which can play pivotal role in determining the success of this new start-up. People are likely to structure their future travel plans with a great deal of inputs taken from adventure tourism. It is one of the ways to re-energise the body by having some highly adventurous activities.
Moreover, not all locations for conducting these adventurous activities are at one place; there can be as many locations as possible to ensure that the customer experiences are enhanced. Therefore; as per Nepal (2020), great possibilities of taking customers from one location to other increase and it will ultimately expand the criteria of services such as lodging at new places, travel expenses as well as the expenditure over food and adventurous activities opted by the customers.
