Assessment 3 –

Assessment type: Project proposal presentation in Powerpoint (MP4)

Weight: 50%

Length: 15 minutes

Instructions

In this assessment, students prepare a
PowerPoint presentation with audio of up to 15 minutes
(MP4) summarising the details of their proposed project. The presentation (a maximum of 15 slides) must contain the following sections:

·
Title slide
– 1 side;

·
Introduction
– up to 5 slides (
20 marks
);

·
Previous studies
– up to 5 slides (
20 marks
); and

·
Proposed data and empirical strategy
– up to 4 slides (
10 marks
).

Advice

When preparing your Powerpoint presentation, please take into account the following:

· The
introductory
section must contain a statement of the problem and its significance along with any relevant background;

· The
previous studies
section must contain a review of relevant past work and your contribution to the literature; and

· The
proposed data and empirical strategy
section must contain an overview of the proposed data source and the empirical approach that you will use to address the research problem.

Please ensure that your PowerPoint presentation with audio of up to 15 minutes is clear, concise, and well-presented (as style and substance go hand in hand). The following clip from YouTube provides you with a brief introduction on how to record audio to a PowerPoint presentation:

If you cannot use the
audio
feature in PowerPoint, you can write your detailed talking points (script) in the
notes
section in your PowerPoint presentation.

What are the causes and effects of climate change?
Written Review
Introduction
People`s discussions on climate change have a longer history than one may imagine. Climate change was imagined in ancient times, and understanding of the issue grew as the technology to research it increased over time. Guy Stewart Calendar, whose theory of carbon dioxide as a heat trapping agent was proved out by computer climate models in the 1970s, was a key person in climate science history who warned of potential problems "Even slight changes in the Earth's orbit may make a difference."
Many people were surprised to learn that astronomical cycles had a role in determining the time of the ice ages. Apparently, the climate was so precisely balanced that even minor perturbations might cause a major shift". The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an organisation made up of several scientists that specialise in climate research, has lately investigated the Earth's climate. In recent years, the IPCC has released four assessments looking at the links between human activities and climate change.
The most recent study, "Climate Change 2007," said that the group's agreement is that global warming is 90 percent certain to be caused by human greenhouse gas emissions. For its work in bringing this concern to the attention of the public, the IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Forest fires are becoming more common as a result of global warming, posing a threat to animals and flora. Oceans absorb one-third of carbon emissions created by fossil fuel combustion. The pH of the water is dramatically lowered, making it acidic.
Acidic circumstances are unsuitable for aquatic creatures' existence, resulting in a higher death rate. Sea levels began to rise as a result of thermal expansion, increasing the danger of soil erosion and storms. Coral reefs are being destroyed by hurricanes and floods, and rising temperatures can bleach corals. This not only disrupts the functioning of the ecosystem, but it also reduces the number of species. Because each component of the biosphere is interconnected, it has a profound effect on the existence of all species.
Previous research
The First Assessment Report (FAR) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was completed in 1990. It served as the basis of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This report had effects not only on the establishment of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), but also on the first conference of the parties (COP), held in Berlin in 1995. The executive summary of the WG I Summary for Policymakers report said they are certain that emissions resulting from human activities are substantially increasing the atmospheric concentrations of the greenhouse gases, resulting on average in an additional warming of the Earth`s surface. They calculated with...
