Introduction
The main content of the assignment is about public speaking. Here, a public speaker has shared about his experiences and his days spent in two ships. The narrator has described the nature and characteristics of ships. The way two ships differ from each other and the various circumstances which took place on board, is the key focus of the assignment. The characteristics of the first boat and its situation differ from the cooperation and availability of the second ship.
The task, which needs to be explored,
is an expression of thoughts personified in the video. In the next step, the essay will be projecting own risk management strategies, according to the issues raised in the ships. In the following part, measures regarding the corrective actions will be taken into view. The assignment will close with a narration of the intrinsic and extrinsic factors. It will equally judge the relational meanings between the extrinsic and intrinsic factors.
Thoughts on the Clip
The thoughts, which have been shared in the clips, are regarding the public speaker’s experiences and description of two ships, which he boarded. The narrator said that he spent some days on Shenandoah (ship), which has changed his life. This ship has 7000 square feet of natural canvas sails. It is a pirate ship and has a revenue cutter of the government. The maintenance of the boat is through a protected harbor. Having boarded the ship, the narrator describes that he "was in a dream reality”, in Shenandoah.
The features of ships are that it had been lit with kerosene lamps, two watertight doors and 32-volt line lamps in each of the cabins. In this ship, the narrator was profoundly liked by the captain, and he used to help him. The thoughts involved which the narrator had, in spite of being renowned; there can be risks in life. The narrator’s next meet is with Captain Douglas, another crew of Alabama. The ship has schooners, which are 94 feet above the water level. Alabama and the Shenandoah are kids ' favourite ships.
The narrator then goes on to reflect on the issues of a crew that had fallen off the ship and met death. After the death of the crew, the captain has started with an investigation, which was mandatory. New rules had been set up, and none of the passengers had been allowed to climb on the rig. The price of settings in Alabama has been reduced. The board for relishing the outside view has been closed down.
Rationale for Risk Management Strategy Implemented in this Situation
The risks, which have been mentioned, have been purposefully explained. Therefore, some of the strategies needed for mitigation of the risks can be followed:
Analysing the Risks
The risk management strategy, which is strongly related to the events of the video, is the analysis of the risks. The analysis of the risks is for mitigation of issues such as fluctuations in prices, lessening of passengers and conflicts. It has been noticed that a crewmember fallen off the ship has brought severe damage to the reputation of Alabama.
Therefore, the captains of Alabama need to develop an “analytics policies”. This policy can help in judging the risks much before the problem can erupt. Even if the damage had been caused, the management of the ships should perform both quantitative and qualitative operations (Redfern et al., 2020). These operations can help the ships to run off the losses.
Monitoring the Risks
As already mentioned in the above paragraph, a crewmember’s untimely fall from the ship has resulted in a gross decline in Alabama. This decline not only was in the life or the reputation of the ship but on the entire business of Alabama. Therefore, the management should take steps of monitoring the risks (Ramos et al., 2019). However, without having to spend a large sum for entertainment such as for the kids, mentioned in the video, the ship's captain should help in the measurement of the cost-effectiveness. For example, the captain target for settlement of rails detracts on ships for safety (TEDx Talks, 2014).
Avoidance of the Risks
In case of dealing with the Shenandoah and Alabama, the management of the ship needs to take guidance from pirate acts. The reduction of the ship's security has been essential about threats like this piracy. The incident of the death of a crew can lead to the entry of another competitor (Blondin et al., 2020). These situations proved Alabama has been unable to make protection for its members. Therefore, it should be put in under the control of other competitors. This intrusion of other competitors can lead to loss of their own authority in Alabama.
Prevention from Risks
As the situation has taken a toll in the systematic regulations of Alabama, therefore prevention strategies needed to be maintained. As spoken by the narrator, the rigs, from where the incident has occurred, should be closed down. The passengers who wanted to capture the scenic beauty should see that from the cabins. The captains have needed to take some justified actions for increasing the prevention measures (Davidson et al., 2018). The Captains of both Shenandoah and Alabama need to adopt '' primary prevention” strategies. These strategies can help in the removal of the risks, which can disrupt.
Expansion of Technological Guidance
A loss of crew had affected the reputation of Alabama Therefore actions, like safety measures, health guidance of crewmembers, needed to be progressed for Alabama. The ship of Alabama has an open mast and bridge of a lower level, for making the journey of the passengers with comfort. There are other parts like cargo holds, hopper tanks and girders, which perform the actions of the engine (Liu et al., 2020). In these cases, the open board-bridge level should be raised higher and made of iron. The arrangement was needed, so that even if a passenger became unmindful in ships, the individual would not run the risks of death.
Price Management
Due to the great loss, Alabama has faced much higher insurance prices. The captain has raised the building costs by which the boats have been created. The loss of crew has affected the industry of the ships largely (Davidson et al., 2019). As the level of the ship has been planned to raise up to 80 feet; therefore the captain has decided to manage some costs for it. The captains of both Alabama and Shenandoah should apply the “value-based pricing” in their rules and regulation to cope with the loss.
Feasibility
Alabama and the Shenandoah team showed that their members have decided to change their course principles and structures. The feasibility, which needed to be maintained by them, is the development of focus of crew so that they can...
