Part A
In clinical practice of nursing especially in mental health and psychology empirical
ly supported methods are often been ignored and more utilization of clinical experience and intuitions are utilized. Often an evidence-based practice in the mental health nursing are influenced by the patient preferences, clinical experience and quality evidences. One of the key elements, which I feel in acquiring evidences in providing quality evidences in the nursing, is its rapid accessibility. In my opinion, within the healthcare sector, there had been a constant change in the reforms for the safe delivery of care and effective leadership helps in leading and striving changes in different levels of the healthcare practice (Lau et al., 2017).
However, I think this is also true that within the healthcare sector leadership roles are spread across clinical workforces and management leading to peculiar challenges. One such gaps I have personally faced are the implementation and practicing the new knowledge that has been acquired during any training program. The leadership program and the concepts which the organization have let us attend does not make the individual ready enough to take the risk so that I cannot just apply the new knowledge at work (Kilbourne et al., 2018).
However, also, it is important that the knowledge helps me in providing assistance in faculty as well as other administrative support in terms of facilities and food. Another gap in the leadership skills, which I have observed is the lack in my ability to work collaboratively so that each of the employees, is mutually benefitted (Sonnino, 2016). Often, I have observed that I lack strategies in terms of collaborative communication. I feel collaborative communication helps in maintaining a synergistic work environment that will help in encouraging the staffs to work more efficiently unified through a common values and vision (Wang, 2016). The third gap, which I find in the leadership qualities within me, is the lack of conflict management ability. In my opinion, conflict is a pervasive force that is quite common within the health organization. The gap in communication most of the time leads to failure in the workplace. I have observed lack of ability in conflict management creates a huge difficulty is identifying the issues and take effective behavioral actions (Lederman et al., 2017). This involves employing competition, compromise, collaboration, seeking consensus and mediation (Pachankis, 2018).
Practice Standard 2- Collaborative leadership
According to the practice standard one of the aspects that needs to be incorporated in the mental health practice is the establishment of collaborative partnership, which helps in supporting and facilitation of mental health issues providing care to the patient in all aspect. I have observed that working collaboratively helps in creating an inclusive environment that helps the individual to become more creative and daring allowing me to thrive for excellence. Often while working within the health care environment, as a nurse I have to work closely with the cross-functional teams. This requires me to work with diverse kinds of ideas.
This needs collaboration as well as shared knowledge. I have observed that where there is a lack in collaboration at a work place in healthcare, it not just brings in errors but also leads to financial and human costs, which are enormous most of the time. If the mental health specialist does not work collaboratively, with the health care professional the patient will be forced to do retest and re-examination and the care provided will lack coordination (Shayan, Kiwanuka & Nakaye, 2019). I feel by developing an efficient collaborative leader I can create an organizational culture that will work on mutual respect, trust as well as shared aspiration helping in the fulfilment of one goal.
In order to develop qualities of social engagement I perceive I need the ability to control as well as deeply comprehend the desires, motivation and emotions of the staffs and team members (Townsend & Morgan, 2017). I have noticed often being aware of my own strengths as well as weakness helps in building a collaborative leader. It makes them confident and develops a humble attitude so that the team members and the subordinates can speak with the leader contributing their ideas during the crucial phases of work (Orchard et al., 2017).
Through collaboration, I will also be able to provide patient-centered care with safe, equitable, efficient and timely care services (Glaser & Suter, 2016). I have...
