Introduction:
The standards of c
linical care were often found to be inconsistent across many medical facilities. Patients complained of a vast discrepancy in the care provided by the healthcare organization in terms of cost for each service, safety measures, availability of care and others. Treating patients in healthcare have been known to be effected by the implementation of clinical governance. Initially there was no option to monitor the standards and frame work that was followed by each Healthcare service provider in their particular organization. In order to combat the inconsistencies in the healthcare industry, Clinical Governance framework was put forth.
Literature review:
The major purpose of conducting a literature review was to gather information about the major aims of clinical governance and the current status of clinical governance in terms of patient care. Our research into this topic shows that there is indeed a gap between the quality of care provided by the organizations and the amount of money charged (Garratt, 2009). Also, the quality of care provided is not consistent in all the healthcare facilities. In order to understand such discrepancies, we have chosen to delve deeper into the aims and policies that govern clinical governance.
· What is meant by Clinical Governance?
Clinical governance means that any organization that is affiliated with the National Health System (NHS) must improve their systems pertaining to care and quality within the their scope and infrastructure and must exhibit continuous improvements, to provide the best quality of service along with safe guarding the standards of medical care (Degeling, Maxwell, Iedema, & Hunter, 2004). It should also provide a model environment that not only helps in caring for the patients but also in the endeavor to constantly improve the clinical care to be given which is expected of a NHS organization (Scally & Donaldson, 2008).
· Aims of Clinical Governance: The major aims of clinical governance are stated as follows:
1. Care that is provided to the patient must be safe, effective and be timely and should be of minimum cost for the patient and his family (Som, 2004).
2. Minimum standards of healthcare and services provided must be consistent and maintained across all the healthcare organization of the nation (McSherry & Pearce, 2011).
3. Clinical governance framework and structures must be maintained without fail across all the NHS organizations (Donaldson, 2018).
· The key principles of Clinical Governance: The healthcare services Act of 2016 put forward the guidelines of the clinical governance framework. The key principles that govern the frame work of clinical governance are stated below (Van Zwanenberg and Harrison, 2018)
1. Care provided by an organization must be oriented towards the patient and the carers in mind.
4. Care must be driven by relevant and effective information specific to each patient to guide the quality of care (McSherry & Pearce, 2011).
2. The careers and the clinical staff must be highly efficient and competent and must have the required qualification that is needed to provide quality care, proper safety measures and foster an environment of constant improvement (Starey, 2003).
