Risk management is the process of evaluating the chance of loss or harm and then taking steps to reduce the potential risk. Using Gibb’s Reflective Cycle (1988), students are required to reflect on a risk that has been / was identified within their current or previous workplace, critically analyse the steps taken to reduce the potential risk at an organisational level.


This reflection must apply an advanced level of theoretical understanding, incorporating minimal descriptive text, rather critical discussion with support from peer reviewed journal articles no older than 5 years. A minimum of 8 references are required. This assessment should be written in the first person.

Introduction
The patient’s health is very important and it is the role of the health care practitioner to see that no harm is caused. Due to being a nurse, the initiative is to help to improve their healt
h. One of the aspects of making sure their health improves is ensuring that there is no more damage caused to the patient’s health. Nurses should make sure that patients are safe and there are no opportunities for anything to cause harm to the patient. This is why Nurses should ensure they prevent patients from injuring themselves in any way. The safety of the patients is the priority and it should be ensured during their stay at the hospital or care centre.
Gibbs Reflective Cycle
The cycle is a learning model where individuals can reflect on certain incidents and learn from the incident from the cycle. This model was created in 1988 and was based on Kolb’s learning cycle. The model has six elements, which include the description of the incident, the feelings during the incident, evaluation of the incident, analysis of the incident, conclusion of the incident and the action plan based on the incident.
Description of the Case
The description of the incident helps to understand the various perspectives involved in the process. The description phase helps to bring a new light to the assignment and the understanding is holistic (Adeani et al., 2020). Safety of the patients is the top most priority of the nurses. Health care should ensure that the person improves and the falling of a patient. The patient was walking down the stairs when they are usually used to being pushed around the premises in a wheelchair. The patient slipped as they were going from the last step as they were engaged in conversation with the nurse.
The patient was being taken to the lab for some tests to be conducted. They are usually very capable of being able to move on their own. However, they are still taken in wheelchairs due to hospital rules. This time they tried to convince the nurse to allow them to climb the stairs, as it was only one floor. They said they wanted to have a walk and it would be nice to stretch their legs. The patient is a very charming person and was able to convince the Nurse to forgo the use of the wheelchair. The nurse agreed as the patient has no physical symptoms of their illness and they could ideally manage to walk on the stairs on their own.
This occurred on the weekend, it was on the 27th of February. This occurred towards the end of the day. It was the last assignment of the nurse’s day. This is why they were more relaxed and more open to not following the rules of the hospital. The patient and the nurse were engaged in conversation about the upcoming weekend and the nurse’s plans. The nurse talked about her plans and saw the patient struggle a bit, as they were slow. This is why they offered to help them down the stairs.
This might have offended the patient as they increased the speed of their walking and started talking to the nurse about their weekend plans again. While they were engaged in the discussion, the patient did not keep track of his steps and he slipped on the last step close to the door, He fell down and injured his elbow. He was immediately taken and a doctor had to set his elbow. He now has to wear a cast and his elbow will recover in a week.
Reflection of the Learning using Gibbs Reflective Cycle
Over the span of my clinical placement, I experienced a patient, a moderately aged woman, who had as of late gone through a vulvectomy and a procedure on her inguinal lymph hub. The nursing care required the everyday purifying also, dressing of the extracted region. I was acquainted with the persistent and verbal assent was gotten from the patient for me to notice the dressing technique. Description:
I can describe the situation concerning my care providing services. Emma, who was an old woman of 79, was suffering from hypertension and arthritis. She has to be given medicine that includes side effects of the UTI. I did not have the knowledge of the various side effects that the above-mentioned medicines had. I can describe my experience by stating that the situation was extremely tense when she collapsed because of the UTI infection. I think that my knowledge in the medication and its side effects is very important in order to provide effective care to the patients and avoid such pathetic consequences.
Feelings:
I felt extremely nervous during the moment when Emma collapsed in front of my eyes. Although I felt extremely nervous, I also felt a bit accountable and responsible for Emma's condition. This is because, due to my lack of knowledge about the medication, Emma had to suffer from the pain. If I had known the side effects the medicines, I would have been more careful in my care treatment.
