1. One of the primary factors that are closely associated with employee motivation is appreciation or recognition. Through the medium of appreciation for
the process of doing a particular task, it is possible to reinforce a certain kind of behavior that brings about the value to the company or business organization. Through recognition, positive reinforcement is suggested, as a result of which, an employee will repeat the same action in order to be recognized and appreciated by the organisation.
Example: In organisations such as IBM, appreciation, and recognition is a method that is used frequently (IBM, 2020). The employees are motivated through this method whenever they surpass a certain target successfully. The recognition given by the organisation motivates and encourages the employees to work to their full potential and give their best to the organisation.
A positive workplace culture is also a huge motivational factor when it comes to employee motivation. If the workplace setting fails to uphold a work culture that is balanced, respectful, harmonious, then the employees will not feel motivated enough to work. In toxic work environments, the employees tend to feel suffocated and uncomfortable. As a result, they try to leave the organisations and shift to a better company with improved workplace culture.
Example: Experian is known for the positive workplace culture of the organisation. They give central importance to the health and wellbeing of the employees. Therefore, they have recently initiated wellness programs, where they have introduced virtual yoga classes. The environment fostered in the organisation is healthy and positive, thereby motivating employees to give their best (Great Place to Work, 2021).
Monetary satisfaction in the form of salary is another motivating factor. The organisations, giving high payments to the employees tend to receive good outcomes.
Example: In organisations such as Apple, the employees are expected to work extremely hard, however, their high salaries completely address the hard work. Therefore, the employees are motivated to work harder for the organisation (Gansky, 2017).
2. One of the theories of motivation is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. There are five levels, which are inclusive of physiological, safety, social, self-esteem, and self-actualisation.
