Assignment 1 – Individual Case Study Analysis (20%) – Version 1.1 Due 11.59pm, Friday of week 5. This is an individual assignment where we analyse the Arrow Electronics case-study using the models taught in weeks 1-4. This assignment is designed to help develop knowledge and critical analysis skills that will be used in the major project and the exam; and to develop effective business report writing skills. Case Study: Arrow Electronics. Your client company for this assignment is Arrow Electronics. Your Marketing Challenge is: to recommend what Arrow Electronics should do to maintain their growth and market position. The sources of information for this assignment are: • The case study. • The Arrow Electronics website. • The textbook. • The lecture material. This is a business report, so it should be clear and precise. It is strongly recommended that you use tables and diagrams to help explain your material and present your analysis in the body of the report. The discussion (text) can then be used to present your findings and conclusions, developed from the analysis. Submission • An electronic copy of the report (in Microsoft Word) is to be submitted on Blackboard / TurnItIn. • Please do not include a coversheet. • Please note that Turnitin automatically scans assignments for plagiarism. • Any report with a Turnitin similarity index of over 15% will be reviewed by the course coordinator Assignment Requirements • The report is to be submitted in Microsoft Word. • Please use a clear font like Arial, or Calibri 11 point font; and single line spacing. • All pages are to be numbered. Tables and Diagrams • Tables and diagrams must be in the body of the report. • We recommend using tables to present the detail of your analysis and implementation plans. Tables are a professional way of presenting data. • Tables can use font sizes down to 8 points. • For tables that are more than a page in length, please repeat the headings of the table on each page. • Diagrams must directly relate to the content of the report. They must show your analysis. Copied diagrams add no value or marks to your work. Diagrams must be clearly referenced in your discussion. Report Length • 1300 words (+ or – 10%). • This word-count does not include: Tables or diagrams, the title page, executive summary, contents page, appendices, or the reference list. • Please note that reports that do not meet word limit will be penalised by 10% per 500 words. • The use of appendices is highly recommended to show support material, but you are limited to 5 appendices. References • The 4 sources of information, given above, simply need to be given in the reference list. • In-text citations are not required. Use of Images • Please note that images of text pasted into the report are not permitted. • Students who use images of text will be required to provide the original text and discuss this in a meeting with the course coordinator. Arrow Electronics The report must include: • A title page showing the course code, report title, your name and student number as the author. • A contents page. Introduction (10%): (Aim for 150 to 200 words maximum). • Introduce the company, what they do and the key challenge(s) they face. • Briefly describe the analysis you will carry out and how the report will be presented. Customer Analysis (25%) Analyse the current and potential customers using relevant theories and models. The analysis should clearly show: Who are the customers and what are the key customer segments. For each key segment: • What is the buying process? • What are the customer needs and selection criteria? • What influences the buying or selection process? • Do they have buying decision groups?
