Assignment 1 Introduction The preparation of a website proposal is the first formal activity to initiate an interactive website design. This document should illustrate what your website will deliver. It should provide high level details on how the website will be designed and developed. It includes a variety of data collection and research techniques that should support you before choosing a design for your website. Objectives This assignment is meant to give you an opportunity to present your idea of the website you will be designing and obtain the formal approval to proceed to the next step. You will also assess the user interface and provide thoughtful consideration of the human computer interaction techniques followed. Task 1 Research and Assess a Web Site (total 60 marks) Choose a web site, it can be personal, cooperate, educational, or interactive social media piece (e.g. website providing news and sharing information). Your choice could either focuses on a website that is outstanding (in terms of user interface design), or one you feel requires improvement. 1. Scope Analysis: (30 marks, 10 marks each) i. Identify and discuss the current scope of the business you have chosen. You should find and analyse at least (3) high level website features that will resolve or enhance the website. For example in a CD collection website, the most important tasks are finding a CD album, editing a CD album information and listening or uploading a CD. ii. Explain the purpose of the website and the intended user, if you have multiple user categories, identify each one. iii. In 1-2 paragraphs provide a description of your initial and final impression about the website. 2. Analysis of User Experience (UX) (25 marks, 5 marks each) Assess the strengths and limitations of website user experience with respect to the following elements you need to consider in your assignment: i. Usability: List (5) aspects of the website design that have good usability, and some that have poor usability. ii. Learnability: Assess how the website is designed with consideration to user learnability. iii. Visibility: Explore aspects of visibility in the design of the website. Guided by the categories listed below, make a list of (5) website elements that needs to be made visible. o Actions: What can the user do? o Feedback: What was the effect of the user action? iv. Input: how the website interface handles user input. v. Colour Design and Typography: explore some of the principles and pitfalls of color design and typography o Assess the main Foreground and background colour o Assess the legibility of the colour scheme. Does foreground text have good contrast with background text? o Evaluate the website for colour blind users. Your Task: Write a report that covers the above requirements. The length of the report must not exceed (3) A4 for the selected website. You can include as many images as are helpful; they don't count toward the page limit. You may also include screenshots as you find required to support your findings. Task 2: Interactive storyboard (Total 32 Marks) Storyboard can be effective approach to communicate with your views, and portrays a best approach to link you message. Once it is finished, it would be a good reference for further analysis, revision, and planned techniques as your work on the project progresses. Based on your analysis and report findings in Task 1, in this task you are required to present an improved proposed design for the selected website. Create a storyboard for the website, name it as “My proposed interactive website”. Following are the requirements for this task. Your Task: i. Sketch a storyboard and organize information. Select an appropriate information structure for the selected website. (8 marks) ii. Describe the exact functionalities included in at least 4 pages of your storyboard designed in (i) above. (8 marks) iii. For the selected 4 pages in (ii) indicate clearly on the sketches how the user will navigate through your website. (8 marks) iv. For the selected 4 pages in (ii) identify the different types of user controls and other used objects (examples: textbox, menu, picture, video,…etc). Ensure to stick to a consistent format (e.g. title, navigation, button, images… etc). (8 marks) Task 3: Client-Server model (Total 12 Marks) Draw a diagram that portrays the client-server architecture model and how information is processed between client and the server. Explain how the model work, you explanation must cover the different types of media services, the web protocols used to transfer information, and how different browsers handle user interaction. Task 4: Security practice (Total 10 Marks) i. Identify and discuss five (5) strategies that would enhance the privacy and security of the selected website. (5 marks) ii. Discuss how you can reflect these security practices to your proposed website? (5 marks)
