Background to the Assessment

The ever increasing emphasis on globalisation and the implementation of large and complex projects will often mean that the projects are delivered through joint ventures, alliances, partnerships and other contract forms which can involve several multi-national corporations operating from more than one country.
This method of project delivery can mean that it will be necessary to take into account legal and strategic objectives of corporations from different countries with the associated environmental, social, ethical, religious and cultural diversities that this brings. There is also the complexity of managing the external stakeholders in a global environment.

Scope of the Assessment

In preparing the team
report:

  • Discuss the emerging challenges for the management of projects and project governance where the project is delivered through any form of joint delivery by more than one company and in a global context.

  • Discuss the ethical issues that are likely to arise in the management of these projects in a situation where there are several corporations involved and there are social and cultural diversities involving different countries.

  • Illustrate your conclusions by developing the structure for a model corporate and project governance framework. This shouldtake into account how governance and ethical issues will be managed and reported within the project lifecycle when the project is being delivered in a global environment.




Notes on the Team Report

The outcome for this assignment is a single team report which contains the joint work of the team, to address the about scope. The team report is to conform to the generally accepted format for reports and one of the appendices is to contain theminutes of virtual team meetings and a schedule showing how the tasks necessary to prepare the content of the report were assigned to individual team members. Appropriate referencing must be used in the report.

Approach to Preparing the Team Report

As a project management practitioner you are expected to manage and operate within a team environment. This assignment will provide you with a further learning opportunity by operating as a “virtual” team to prepare the report for this assignment.
You need to undertake this assignment as you would normally approach a project:

  • Define the scope of the project (scope of the assessment).

  • Plan how you will obtain the necessary information for the report.

  • Plan a format for the team report and assign tasks to each team member to collect the information and to be involved in compiling the report.

  • Prepare a schedule showing all of the activities to complete the project by the due date.

  • Prepare the assignment report.

The organization selected for analysis in the assignment is Wild Horse. The law could be
considered as the key beginning point for every business. Most of the leading businesses also had
their own statement of the Business Principles that set out core values as well as standards for
them. In case of Wild
Horse’s, this is known as ‘Good Citizenship’. Wild Horse ensures in
protecting the human rights of its employees and the native people where Wild Horse operations
are carried out. Therefore the organization contributes in voluntary principle on security and
human rights. These codes on conduct are to ensure that the organization handled the security of
existing employees working in unstable countries like Nigeria and also making sure that there is
no negative impact on local people. Thus in guidance to both private and public security they
assigned to protect the mining operation or oil and gas facility by investigation, monitoring and
controlling.
Business Ethics are a form of professional ethics or corporate ethics examining ethical
principles as well as moral of ethical problems surrounding the business environment. Business
ethics is applied to forms as well as aspects of business conduct and it decides the conduct of
employees of an organization and the business house as a whole (Elibol, 2009). Two types of
business ethics are normative and descriptive ethics. The corporate practice of business ethics is
mainly limited to normative ethics. Business ethics are necessary in an organization to align the
conduct of employees and organization to the mission, vision and goal of the company. It
decides on whether a company has an ethical framework or is resorting to unethical practices of
trade and business (Hunt, 2006).
The company has defined for styles of ethical decision making. The first style identified
by him was individualistic which was primarily driven by personal survival, preservation as well
as natural reason. Krolick defined second style as the altruists, a person who is majorly
concerned for others. Pragmatists are the third style of ethical decision making, which is defined
as the person who behaves depending upon the situations. The fourth style was the idealist which
means that the decisions are influenced by principles and rules.

The company assist the principles of universal declaration of human rights and the
benefits gained by the local community and the company shareholders are that the operation is
carried without accidents, as they are protecting their employees the employees can confidently
