Poor design may lead to staff, visitor, or patient stress. In large facilities, the inability to find a department may lead to frustrations and disorientation. Poor layout may also lead to staff inefficiencies or fines because of failure to meet regulatory requirements. Throughout this course you will plan for the facility type you selected in the Week 2 Facility Selection and Research assignment. This assignment illustrates the difficult balances between patient flow, workflow, safety, and aesthetics. You will use this document as a guide to understand the environmental design elements you should include in your final design. This document describes your assignment for each week. Week One: Floor Plan Design Tool Choose either Roomsketcher or Floorplanner. If you use other free floorplan drawing software, it is up to you to confirm that your instructor can see the drawing and that any free trial period will carry you through the end of class. Create, with your chosen drawing tool, a drawing of a rectangle. Do not use a template. Insert any kind of figure or shape inside your rectangle. Save the drawing. Write a brief explanation as to why you chose the drawing tool you did. Tell your instructor what worked well and what did not work well. Submit both your drawing and your brief explanation. Some apps require you to take a screenshot. Some allow you to send a URL to me. As long as I can somehow see the drawing, I will grade it. Note: It is important to note that the purpose of this project is not to become an expert at blueprint drawing but rather to ensure the concepts learned in this course can be applied to the facility design principles.  Your use of the floor planning program is meant to enhance your learning of the course and program concepts, not be a frustration or bottleneck. Please have fun with this assignment. Week Two: Facility Selection and Research Select a facility type from the list below to use in your final project. You will design this facility in Weeks 3 through 5. If you would like to use a facility type not listed here, please check with your instructor for approval. Note that this assignment does not include a drawing. · Hospital department (specify) · Skilled Nursing Facility · Doctors’ office (specify specialty) · Outpatient diagnostic facility (specify lab, imaging, etc.) · Outpatient rehab or treatment facility (specify type) Research your chosen facility type. Write a 350- to 525-word summary. Your summary should: · Identify the type of facility you selected · Identify the location where your facility will be built (state>city>neighborhood). · Describe services to be offered at the facility. · Describe population demographics of those who use the facility · Describe the facility type’s role in the health care industry, focusing on referral patterns · Describe key physical structural characteristics of the facility · Use and cite the Hayward textbook and at least one other credible scholarly reference, using proper APA formatting for citation and reference listing. · Submit your assignment as an APA paper, Power Point, or other format of your choice. Week Three: Facility Planning—Floor Plan The construction of evidence-based health care facilities includes careful planning and layout as well as considerations for the health of the population to be served. Evidence-based health care facilities planning also needs input from a cross-functional team of informed stakeholders and the integration of best practices in modern design and regulatory requirements. Note that the drawing itself is worth only 20% of the total point available in this assignment. This week and next, you will focus on your facility’s structure and the areas contained within it. Write a 175- to 350-word response to the following prompt: · Reiterate your chosen facility type and location · In terms of traffic flow, describe your facility, · Describe and explain the intended patient traffic flow · Describe and explain the intended staff traffic flow/ workflow · Use and cite the Hayward textbook and at least one other credible scholarly reference, using proper APA formatting for citation and reference listing. · Submit your written assignment as an APA paper, Power Point, or other format of your choice. · Cite in text and append a reference list · Use APA-compliant headings in a paper or titles in a slide presentation Create a floorplan for your chosen facility type that includes at least 3 to 5 distinct areas or rooms. Using the drawing tool you chose in Week 1. Consider the following design elements and include them in your facility as appropriate: · Facility structural components · Walls · Doors · Windows · Rooms · Hallways · Facility areas (but not equipment or furniture) as appropriate for your facility, such as: · Space for patient service such as registration, bathrooms, amenities · Space for diagnostic and treatment services, consultation, etc · Space for laboratory equipment, radiology equipment, gases like oxygen, and suctions · Space for clinical support areas, such as nurses’ station, charting areas, etc. · Space for administrative offices · Space for building support, such as laundry, generator facilities, housekeeping, etc. Submit a copy of the floorplan of your facility. Paste it at the end of your essay, submit as a separate file, or provide your instructor with a link to view your drawing. Print Screen or scanned images are acceptable. Week Four: Facility Planning—Legal Requirements This week you will continue to plan your facility. The legal team has asked you to provide them with considerations regarding legal and regulatory requirements that may affect the facility design planning process. Note that the emphasis is on facility design. The legal team already knows about personnel, HIPAA, Consider legal and regulatory requirements such as: · Local zoning codes for your chosen location · State zoning codes for your chosen location · Federal requirements, such as CMS · Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines · Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) · Credentialing requirements, such as the Joint Commission · and so forth Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper. Your paper should: · Reiterate your chosen facility type and location · Explain the impact of legal and regulatory requirements on your facility · Provide a brief overview of a wide range of types of requirements · Analyze the one requirement that you find will most affect facility design planning · Analyze accountability and liability requirements for staff and other stakeholders · Analyze the relationship between legal and ethical considerations of the requirements. · Properly use, cite, and reference the Hayward textbook and at least 3 other scholarly resources. · Submit your APA paper · Cite in text and append a reference list · Use APA-compliant headings Week Five: Facility Planning—Project Planning This week you will submit two separate documents: Analyze your project · Research and choose a software project planning tool of your choice. Use it to outline the planning, design and construction of your facility. Submit an analysis of the flow of your facility planning project, start to finish. · Gantt charts are straightforward and popular, but you may choose a tool that works best for you. You will find some good examples at: https://zapier.com/blog/free-project-management-software/ Write a 350- to 700-word presentation in response to the following: · Research and describe design elements, technology, and equipment you could use to enhance the environmental sustainability of your facility. Note that “sustainability” here refers to environmental responsibility – greenness –, not fiscal performance or structural soundness. · Cite the Hayward textbook and at least 2 other credible scholarly references, using proper APA formatting for citation and reference listing. · Submit your assignment as an APA paper, Power Point, or other format of your choice. Projects must be sustainable, this is said because the projects which are not sustainable impact the environment badly which means that they can harm both the project and the environment, and already we have harmed the environment so much that now any increase in the harm will case drastic impact on the human beings who are living in the country.
The various design elements, technology and equipment that could be used to enhance the environmental sustainability of the facility are:
1. Inclusion of a garden area in the design of the project
This will mean that the project is well captured with the greenery which will help the project to get greener and more sustainable....
