  1. Internal strengths are related to resources and capabilities that effectively and efficiently allow an organization to accomplish its stated mission. Write out and discuss 8 to 10 strengths that you consider the highest priority for the organization of choice.


  2. Internal weaknesses are related to deficiencies in resources and capabilities that hinder an organization’s ability to accomplish its mandate or mission. Write out and discuss 8 to 10 weaknesses that you consider the highest priority for the organization of choice.


  3. External opportunities are outside factors or situations that can affect your organization in a favorable way. Write out and discuss 8 to 10 opportunities that you consider of highest priority for the organization of choice.


  4. External threats are outside factors or situations that can affect your organization in a negative way. Write out and discuss 8 to 10 threats that you consider of highest priority for the organization of choice.



Part 2:



In the health care industry, change occurs quickly and many times without warning. In an effort to address such changes, contingency planning is a key step in the strategic planning process. Contingency planning follows a 7-step process to achieve maximum effectiveness. Assume that you are formulating the contingency plans for an outpatient surgical center.




  • Identify the 7 steps in the contingency planning process, and explain how each step will be addressed for the surgical center.


  • Be sure to provide a properly cited response that includes references.

Introduction
Every organization need to identify the present market scenario and also predict the future market scenario. Identification
of the market scenario will help the organization to make strategic planning which will help them to identify their available resources, identify their strengths and weaknesses, along with available opportunities and threats. This strategic planning is very important for the healthcare sector because of the changing healthcare scenario and the recent pandemic wave of covid-19, in order to keep the healthcare system operational. In this report a detailed discussion is done with respect to the Toronto General Hospital regarding their strategic planning and further initiatives to work in smoother manner. In the second part of the report a detailed discussion is done on the seven-step contingency plan for an outpatient surgical centre and the benefits is discussed.

Strategic Planning of Toronto General Hospital
Strategic plan is generally a document, which is used for the communication within the organization with clearly stated organizational goals, plan of action needed to achieve those goals, and analysis of all other critical elements that are developed during the planning process (Bryson, Edwards & Van Slyke, 2018). Strategic planning helps in recording the mission, vision and values along with the long-term goals of the organization. Toronto General Hospital (TGH) established in the year 1812 is one of the oldest healthcare unit in Canada, providing major teachings in medical sector, with the affiliation with many leading universities in Canada. This college cum hospital also provides a range of healthcare services to general public, with the availability of major transplantation service, performing heart, lung, kidney, liver, pancreas and small intestine transplantation. The hospital also provides general emergency medical treatments to the patients also (UHN, 2021).
Toronto General Hospital has prepared a strategic plan for the year 2019-2023. This plan is meant for serving in better manner to provide a healthier world with a series of world class healthcare services. The aim of the plan is to put the needs of patients at first, and also the hospital is focused towards the clinical, academic and professional diversity at every level of their operation to show true spirit of diversity (UHN, 2021). For the successes of any strategic plan the funding’s are the most important element. The funding’s for the hospital strategic plan will be from The Princess Margert Cancer Foundation, Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation, Toronto Rehab Foundation, granting agencies of Government of Ontario, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ministry of Economics and many more organizations are coming forward to provide funds for the hospital (Clarke et al., 2018).
Strategic planning of any organization requires realistic and objective assessment, which should be conducted at an interval of twice a year. As discussed by Vetter & Kain (2017) that for a proper strategic plan it is important to conduct SWOT analysis of the hospital. SWOT analysis helps in analysing the internal and external issues along with the strategic and tactical aspects of the marketing plan of the hospital. This will help in understanding the present position, and the anticipated position that the hospital is desired to achieve by the year 2023. SWOT analysis of Toronto General Hospital will be done based on their available resources and based on that future plans are prepared.
Strengths: Strengths are the list of capabilities and the resources available that can be exploited in order to garner a competitive edge. The strengths in the hospital could include a brand-new innovative service, that was not provided earlier and that could have the potential to change the dimension of healthcare. Next strength can be capabilities of the cost advantage that it offers through the available services. Strengths could also include cultural connection of the hospital to the locality and also the reputation created by their work and the aspects that add value to their service. Similarly, strengths also include special expertise and the experience that the hospital had gather for the period of over 200 years. Another strength that can be handy for the hospital and the accessibility to the general public during any hour of the day.
