There are several assessments which can be done for the patient suffering from sickle cell disease as in the present case scenario. Fatigue is on of the common signs of sickle cell disease

Assessments for the patient:-
Physical examination of the legs of the patient
CBC testing with differential
Reticulocyte count
Metabolic tests including liver function test
Try to ask the patient relief measures taken by him in the past and what medications/techniques were helpful to him to combat pain
The physical examination includes discoloration pattern, swelling and movement patterns (if the patient is able to move properly or not)

Types of pain:- Pain is the most common symptom of sickle cell disease
The pain varies in intensity, location, quality, and temporal pattern.
Major locations of pain are abdomen, thorax, joints, long bones and digits.
Pain last for a few hours to a few weeks. 
Some adolescents and adults with sickle cell anemia also have chronic pain, which can result from bone and joint damage, ulcers, and other causes.
