Physical examination of the legs of the patient
CBC testing with differential
Reticulocyte count
Metabolic tests including liver function test
Try to ask the patient relief measures taken by him in the past and what medications/techniques were helpful to him to combat pain
The physical examination includes discoloration pattern, swelling and movement patterns (if the patient is able to move properly or not)
