Introduction
Mass-spectrometry, a specialized analytical tool is used in biochemical assays to extract accurate results from blood samples. Mass-spectrometry utilizes mass to charge ratio (m/z) for one or more than one molecule in the blood sample. Compared to conventional methods such as immunoassays or chromatographic analyses, mass-spectrometry can detect different analytical targets of interest. The analytical tool possesses improved specificity and sensitivity.
Results
Inference of Fig. 1
Figure 1 represents the mass-spectra of the patient's normal scan. There are a total of 72 peaks have been identified which represent 72 different compounds present in the blood sample. This is a targeted analysis and whole profiling of blood samples has not been done. Here acylcarnitine has been eluted with distinct peaks so that the study samples can be compared for the presence of this target compound in blood samples.
Inference of Fig. 1 Patient A
The mass-spectrum of figure 1 for the patient A sample matches the previous spectrum with many of the peaks by the time of elusion. Some of the peaks eluted at the same time in both of the figures emphasizing the presence of similar ions in both of the samples.
Inference of Fig. 2 Patient B
The mass-spectrum of figure 2 for the patient B sample matches the previous spectrum with many of the peaks by the time of elusion. Some of the peaks eluted at the same time in both of the figures emphasizing the presence of similar ions in both of the samples. The characteristic presence of the peaks of phytanic acid and pristanic acid (C22, C24, and C26) are evident in this sample.
Inference of Fig. 2 Patient B
The mass-spectrum of figure 2 for the patient B sample matches the previous spectrum with many of the peaks by the time of elusion. Some of the peaks eluted at the same time in both of...
