Introduction
In today’s fast-paced competitive world, if any company wants to survive the test of time and thrive in the future market, it is imperative to continuously innovate and change. Innovation, openness to unconventional, new and disruptive ideas has a first-order impact on tons of creati
ve innovation. This can break the new grounds in terms of revenue creation and intellectual capital. By the virtue of this paper, I have performed extensive analysis on how LEGO transformed the entire business shedding blood in the water to a differentiated player that had made its competitor completely irrelevant. Lego as a company has been successful in translating the user-generated ideas into the commercial product lines leveraging innovation and design (“LEGO IDEAS – How It Works”, 2018).
Company Background
One of the most recognized Toy Company is Lego. It is a Danish based toy manufacturer and production company located in Denmark. The company manufactures branded toys that usually consist of interlocking of various plastic bricks. The company has also diversified into numerous amusement parks all across the world popularly referred as Legoland along with this they operate in numerous retail outlets. The company was facing major threat from new toy companies that had entered in the market and eating away the market-share as well as staggered revenues, which were slowly declining over a period of time. There was intense competition in the toy market and unless Lego innovated its product strategy it would have continuously end-up losing its market share (King, A., & Lakhani, K. R., 2013).
Red Ocean and Blue Ocean
The company to meet their organizational objectives utilizes Red and Blue oceans. While Red Ocean focuses on organization to adopt strong strategies to exist in an intensive competitive environment while on the other hand blue ocean strategy ensures that the competition is completely immaterial. The blue ocean strategy projects to surface the differentiation to the company especially to the brand like LEGO. Essentially blue ocean can be explained as a market for service/products were there is either very less or no competition. Lego is a classic example that had transformed it is operations and strategies from stringent price wars in Red Ocean to completely differentiated market. For instance, Lego invested in creating its digital market presence as well as strong awareness in the market can develop new customers and strengthen the already existing customers (First Look: LEGO Unveils Latest Fan-Designed Set, ‘Ship In A Bottle’., 2018). By the virtue of this blue ocean strategy, well-established company like LEGO are able to completely reconstruct the market boundaries along with the industry structure along with their actions.
LEGO Implemented Blue Ocean Strategy
With the help of blue ocean strategy, LEGO was able to explore new market, which were perhaps non-competitive or actively leveraged by players existing in...
