Performance Objective For this task, you will demonstrate the skills and knowledge by working through a number of activities and completing and submitting a project portfolio. Assessment task description For this task you will work through a range of activities and complete a project portfolio. Assessment task introduction The project includes two main sections: Procedure and Specifications. You are required to understand the difference between these sections: · Procedure - this section describes all the requirements that are needed to be submitted step by step. You DO NOT need to answer in this part. · Specifications - this section specifies what the student MUST include as part of the project. You are required to insert an object (a document) under each of the requirements. To be deemed ‘Satisfactory’ for this project, all the requirements under the Specifications need to be submitted and completed in accordance with Skills Australia Institute’s ‘Student Handbook’ (under ‘Training and Assessment’ section). Procedure 1. Carefully read the following scenario This project requires you to establish, maintain and evaluate the work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in a workplace of your choice. You are required to: · assess the existing WHS System, considering legislation, organisational policies and procedures and best practices · meet with personnel to set up and maintain consultative arrangements · adapt and adopt the WHS Management System · conduct a training and induction course for personnel · maintain and evaluate the adapted WHS policy. This project must be based on a workplace that has existing WHS policies and procedures for a selected work area. You can use the case study business provided to you by your assessor, or you may like to base this on your own business, or a business you are currently working for or are familiar with. It’s important that your business has information available to use when evaluating WHS Management System. Speak to your assessor to get approval if you want to base this on your own business or one you work for. You will also need to seek input from people who work for, or are involved, in this business several times. Fellow students or your assessor can be involved in these meetings and play the roles of workplace personnel/management and consultants as relevant. You may have the opportunity to be involved in actual meetings in your workplace if applicable – these can be recorded and submitted. You will be collecting evidence for this unit in a Project Portfolio. The steps you need to take are outlined below. 2. You will need to access the following files to complete this assessment Project Portfolio Case Study Fatigue Management Report Performance Reporting Matrix 3. Project planning Make sure you are familiar with the business you are basing this assessment on. Identify the work area and job role you’ll be assuming as you complete this assessment. If you’re basing this assessment on your own business or a business you work for, it’s important at this step that you have your business approved by your assessor. Complete Page 4 of your Project Portfolio for this unit. Read through the requirements of Section 1, 2 and 3 of your Project Portfolio as well as the necessary background information, relevant policies and procedures. 4. Assessing the existing WHS Management System Complete Section 1 of your Project Portfolio. When you complete Section 1, you need to: · Provide an overview of your chosen business, including: · the name of the business · a description of what the business does · the job role you perform in the business · the selected work area. · Establish the WHS legislative and organisational requirements relevant to your selected work area, including: · a summary of the relevant legislation, including: · Purpose and definitions of WHS Act, Regulations · Meaning of duty of care · Obligations of workers at work · Obligation of a business to consult and communicate with workers · a summary of the associated organisational policies and procedures · an explanation of how the policy illustrates the organisation’s commitment to comply with WHS legislation. · Identify all personnel in your organisation who are associated with WHS and explain their connection to WHS. · Research and summarise WHS best practices for the selected work area related to: · hazard identification and risk control · WHS communication and consultation practices · health and safety requirements for working from home · Assess WHS policy and procedures requirements, including: · setting at least two goals of policy adaptation · shortfalls of the existing WHS policy You are also required to attach certain documents as part of your evidence – review the documents you need to attach as outlined in Section 1 of the Project Portfolio and make sure you attach these upon submission. Make sure you have answered all questions in Section 1. Submit to your assessor for review. For the purpose of this role-play, your assessor or another student can act as a one or more personnel members. Meetings can be arranged to take place in the classroom or online. A meeting can be as simple as a discussion with the assessor acting as a variety of personnel, or one or more classmates can take on the role of various staff members. 4. Personnel meeting Meet with the relevant WHS personnel. Take notes so you can complete Section 2 of your Project Portfolio after the meeting. The meeting should last for approximately 20 minutes. At the meeting: · agree on and set up required WHS consultation arrangements and discuss how they will be maintained in the future · provide information about the existing WHS policy and discuss the shortfalls · provide opportunity for staff members to raise WHS issues and respond if applicable. · During the meeting, you will need to demonstrate effective communication skills including: · use a presenting style and vocabulary to suit the audience and situation · seeking the views and opinions of others by active listening and questioning · guide discussions and negotiate agreeable outcomes. This meeting can either be viewed in person by your assessor or you may like to video record the session for your assessor to watch later. Your assessor can provide you with more details at this step. Make sure you follow the instructions above and meet the timeframes allocated. 5. Adapting and adopting the WHS Management system Complete Section 2 of your Project Portfolio. When you complete Section 2, you need to: · Summarise the outcomes of the WHS consultative arrangement meeting and follow organisation policy/procedures to provide relevant information to any required personnel (e.g. minutes of meeting emailed to CEO). · Adapt the existing WHS policy and procedures to reflect legislative and best practice requirements, meet set goals and address shortfalls. Include any additional requirements established at the meeting. · Calculate the resources required to support policy and procedure requirements by: · identifying financial and human resources · using at least mathematical and problem-solving strategies to perform calculations · explaining how you have adhered to organisational requirements. · Develop and maintain hazard identification and risk control procedures · Identify and report on one hazard and its associated risk (use Fatigue Management Report Template if applicable). In your report include: · problems associated with hazard · signs of the hazard · risks associated with hazard and procedures for managing the risk · proposed strategies for managing risk and relationship to hierarchy of control (e.g. implement safe working hours guidelines) · sources of information used for the report, as well as sources of expert advice that could be used if further advice is needed in the area. Your procedures must reflect legislative and best practice requirements. Include any additional requirements established at the meeting. · Consider expert advice for risk control, including: · applying hierarchy of control processes (e.g. email requesting permission from CEO to incur costs) · an appropriate request for risk control advice (e.g. draft an email or telephone script to the expert) as outlined in organisational procedures. Assume expert advice has been obtained. If using the case study, expert advice resulted in a safe working hours guideline, which the CEO is responsible for monitoring. The working week at Grow Management Consultants is 38 hours. The safe working hours guideline states: · No one should work more than 14 hours in a day. · There should be at least 10 hours continuous break per 24-hour period. · A lunch break of at least 30 minutes should be taken during the working day. · Individuals should be aware of the hours worked and ensure they are aware of the risks. · Provide a resource for implementing the risk control measure (e.g. poster for workplace notice board outlining risk control measures, draft email etc). · Use the work you done in section 1 and 2 to develop a WHS induction and training program for your chosen organisation in an appropriate format (e.g. MS PowerPoint presentation). Your presentation must address: · An overview of WHS legislation that applies to Grow Management Consultants and the purpose of such legislation. Note that this should be the WHS legislation that applies to the state/territory in which you are studying: · Persons within the organisation who are responsible for WHS and each of their responsibilities (as identified from the Health and Safety Policy and Procedure). · A review of the key changes made to the existing Health and Safety Policy and Procedure. · An outline of the revised Grow Management Consultant’s Work Health and Safety Policy and associated procedures · An outline of hazard identification and risk control procedures. Introduction
The fatigue management report can be defined sure that the employees are not having health issues when working in the environment of the organization. The fatigue report is useful to find out whether the impacts too of the organization can be seen on the performance of the workers or not. There are different organization which are providing different fatigue management report to check the working level of the employees. Each of the person has different level for the fat in management.
Problems associated with fatigue
It is the responsibility o
f each of the worker to make sure that they are able to work with complete accuracy and the concentration. If the person is not feeling well then, he sure to inform the manager about the same. It is difficult to work in the night shift continuously and hence it is the responsibility of the manager to not force any of the employees to work in the night share for longer period of time. If the person is facing the fatigue issue, then it this can result in deficiency of the concentration and the person cannot work with complete efficiency.
Signs of fatigue
There are different signs which can help us to make sure that the person is going through fatigue issue or not. It results in sleeplessness, extension of sleep, tiredness, irritation, headache, muscle weakness and other physical health related issues.
Risks associated with fatigue and procedures for managing the risk of fatigue
each person can have different level of handling the load. It is the important task for the manager to check the different levels of each of the employees when they are working the organization. We cannot test now fatigue report for each of the employee with the same level. There can be different signs in different people for the fatty issue. A person can face the sleeplessness soon if they are working in the night shift or some people can also make it possible to work for the night shift for a whole month.
Proposed strategies for managing fatigue and relationship to hierarchy of control
It is important that the person is able to reduce the risk which are related with a fatigue. The person should have proper sleep and also try to reduce the overload on them. They should take adequate sleep so that they can work with complete concentration and efficiency. If the person is forcing themselves 4 more work, then it can have impact over their health. It is important to have a rotational shift for the employees and also, they should be able to undergo or regular check-up so that they can understand their health state for work.
