Assignment topic:This assignment topic is based on a real-world case study involving Crown Resorts Limited. The Bergin Inquiry Report (An Inquiry under section 143 of the Casino Control Act 1992 (NSW)) dated February 1, 2021 was publicly released on 9 February 2021. In this assignment, you will look at this report and consider it in the broader context of corporate governance. The aim of this assignment topic is to allow students to learn about corporate governance in practice and to move beyond a theoretical understanding.Required:Prepare a research essay entitled ‘Crown Resorts Limited and the Bergin Inquiry – a corporate governance case study’. In your answer, at a minimum, you should address the following:• The events that led to the commissioning of the report.• An overview of the contents of the report.• The way the report was released and the response to the report in the media.• The implications of the report for the board of directors and individual directors, including known events after the release of the report (you may choose a cut-off date for your study – you must specify this date in your essay). You should feel free to explore aspects of the report or the broader context that are of particularinterest to you, provided these aspects have some relevance to corporate governance.Note: the Bergin Inquiry Report consists of two volumes and is almost 800 pages in length. It is an important skill in business to be able to find relevant information in voluminous reports and other documents. There is no need to read the whole report. You should make use of the table of contents and the structure of the report to find the sections of the report that are relevant to your research.Page 2 of 4
