Case Questions:
1. Apply the conflict model (found in the chapter on conflict) to this case. That is, explain the facts of this
case using the concepts in the model. 7/20 points(approximately 500 words)
2. From the perspective of management, what is the problem(s) in this case? From the union/employee
perspective, what is the problem(s) in this case? Are these problems connected to one another? Why (or

3. How could the parties in this case work together to ensure that the mill will receive the investment of
funds needed to avoid any layoffs? 5/20 points(300 – 400 words)
Grading Criteria
The accuracy of your answers, in its entirety, is the main grading criterion. This means that the clarity
and strength of the application of the course concepts will affect your overall grade. Further, fulfilling
report-writing basics (such as attention to grammar, an introduction/case synopsis, section headings
and/or subheadings, conclusions etc.) is worth 3/20 grade points as these elements add coherence while
enhancing the overall flow. In other words, do not submit a paper that starts and ends in two or three
paragraphs which address all the answers (to question 1, 2, and 3) as if a single answer.
Based on the information you will find in the Case; your assignment paper/report should be as
comprehensive as possible. As a guideline, your paper should approximately take 1300-1600 words in
total. This word counts include an Introduction or Case Synopsis (100 to 200 words) and a conclusive
paragraph (50-100 words).

Additional Information
Students should ensure that they understand the conventions for referencing sources, in footnotes and
bibliographies. In addition to citing quotations from all sources, whether from written materials,
interviews or electronic networks, students must credit with footnotes or in-text references all facts and
ideas that are not their own, EVEN IF THEY ARE IN YOUR OWN WORDS. In any academic exercise,
plagiarism occurs when one offers as one’s own work the words, data, ideas, arguments, calculations,
designs or productions of another without appropriate attribution or when one allows one’s work to be
copied.

Introduction
The case has effectively reflected on the specific as
pects of the working environment and the value of an individual which has a profound impact on the productivity of the organization. The case has also been reflected in terms of the working conditions in the sawmill and the aspects that the management is nagging the crew members about their complaints of answered working conditions and the lack of Intelligence. It is a relevant point to ascertain the fact in the case that the crew does not feel their company is respecting their values. Besides, the team members are not holding any positive or strong values for themselves which reflects the fact that the team members lack the motivation to complete the job successfully. This is obvious from the case that the lack of strong individual values has effectively impacted the quality of work of the crew members in the Sawmill. The case also determines the working environment in the sawmill and the authorities' influence over the crew members which had significantly impacted productivity. The case reflects the supervisor's opinion that the employees are inefficient and they straighten the employees who work faster and who are physically exhausted.
Conflict Model
The president in this case is willing to start the productivity unit in Alberta because of the better labor relations climates in Jackson. This is the major aspect of the conflict when the president and the authorities of the organization are willing to replace the productivity unit in terms of labor relations. The conflict became an issue when the authorities were reluctant to invest in Alberta because of the deteriorating labor relations in Jackson. If the Jackson sawmill the supervisors demonstrated a negative attitude towards the crew members (Winardi et al., 2020). In the work environment, the negative rewards regarding the work environment had one of the greatest aspects of the deteriorating conditions in the workplace.
The higher authorities are not concerned about the answer for working conditions and the safety concerns of the crew members and therefore they did not share common values with the crew members which is not at all professional. This can be profoundly aggravated that the aspect of directive leadership has initiated the problems of conflict that deteriorated the conditions in the workplace. Similar aspects have been aggravated with the aspects of disciplinary actions like threats, judging the crew members while they are completing the task, and waiting for the mistake to happen. The conflict has also been initiated with the aspects of the job description in NCFPL.
In certain aspects, the supervisor stated that the job of the supervisor was to keep a close watch on every move of the truth. This was effective to imply that there was a narrow span of control that has been reported as bad prospects of management which are obvious aspects of the conflict. The nature of the decision of the supervisors in the organization has also the relevant context of conflict in the management issues. The decision-making...
