Chapter 7-8 Discussion

A. After reading and reviewing Chapter 8 and watching the videos, select one of the following discussion topics and answer all of the prompts for that topic. Make sure to include relevant points to your answer and make sure that your information is correctly cited. You must post before you can see the posts of others.
1. Describe the growth of the first party system in the United States. How did these parties develop? How did they define themselves, both independently and in opposition to one another? Where did they find themselves in agreement?

2. Why did James Madison try to avoid going to war with Britain in 1812? What was the most significant impact of the War of 1812? Was it a win for the United States?

In what ways does the United States Constitution manifest the principles of both republican and democratic forms of government? In what ways does it deviate from those principles? Can you give a current example of how we as a nation are moving either toward or away from the founding father's intentions as written in the Constitution and Bill of Rights?
